It almost looks like a silencer baffle but ...

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

If its the same fella, I believe he's already had a few run-ins with the ATF. If it isn't the same person I'd make sure the dogs are with a friend or family member.

Actually laughing out loud at those pictures. Sweet. This guy's just begging for his day in court, or worse.

He’d make more money if he made these out of heat treated 416 stainless and if he had some c cell or B cell or d cell type threading on the outside so that one could do......something.

I suppose you could slip a tube over the outside and weld it on. Rocksett maybe. Otherwise there doesnt look like any way to keep the tube on.

7075 is not a weldable alloy. You can stick filler to it, but you get a very mechanically weak weld, ruin the temper and introduce fractures in the piece.

Those wouldn't work very well as suppressors anyway. Length, diameter, baffle design; I bet you wouldn't see more than 15 dB reduction on a centerfire rifle, if that.

" It almost looks like a silencer baffle..."

No Hillary, Charlie!

What is disgusting is that it is more likely that ATF will obtain
at break-neck speed the lists of the sillies who fall for these obvious
'can-parts' light-speed faster and more efficiently than the Feebies
and locals yokels reacting to the endless stream of warnings
of the immediate danger from that deranged savage in Florida who destroyed the lives
of so many of our dear children.

And to boot the incompetent paid armed boob(s) stood outside as
the children were being butchered. "Hey, gunfire? Duh! Not my job".

A crippled grandparent with a walker would have charged that Mother---Shooter
and beaten him down with their cane.

Thank God for our founders who established and enshrined our Constitution .
It must be defended each and every second by
"We The ( deplorable ) People".

I vote for welding followed by video, especially for the .308 model.

Technically I think it's possible to weld 7075 but it has a high potential of destroying the structural integrity, the video would be delightful.

The ATF failed to prove that these reduced the report of a firearm (sans tube) and so it was ruled that they're not silencer parts.

No reason you couldn't make a tube slightly longer than the body potion, threaded at either end. Rear adapter, w/o muzzle threads, compressing the monocore against the end cap.

7075 is weldable. However, do not add stress to the part post-weld.so, not for this application.

But we'll financed Sig Sauer's version failed because they stuck a radiator hose over it?

I believe the Sig case was before this other guy. Most likely, his lawyer read over the Sig case and learned from their mistakes. Also, the ATF used the "it looks like" tactic and went forward. In this guys case, his lawyer said, "show me the reduction" and stuck to it.

For applications like filling voids in a mold and such, yes.

I just tell people not to do it, because they are generally asking in a case where the weld would require mechanical strength.

But when you authoritatively make an absolute statement that is not completely true like "7075 is not a weldable alloy." you undermine your own credibility.

Eventually people do find out that 7075 is weldable but they have no idea why you said it is not.
