Griffin QD muzzle brake dimensions

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Griffin QD muzzle brake dimensions

Post by fishman »

Anyone have dimensions or specs on griffin QD muzzle brakes? DM doesn't have the griffin adapter in stock that I want. Is it as straight forward as it looks? Just a simple taper and some threads? I can't imagine it being hard to make one unless I'm overlooking something.

Is this what your looking for? Found here

This is the Taper mount, NOT the QD mount. The QD mount attaches to the birdcage cuts, similar to the Knight's A2 mounts.

I've got a lot of mileage out of that drawing!

As why I made sure to link to your thread.

If I may ask a question.
What is the point (not purpose) of a blast shield? You're completely negating the purpose of a flash hider or muzzle brake, by covering them. A flash hider will have a huge flame come from the front and a brake will serve no braking function at all. If you're using the mount solely as a QD for a suppressor, why not just leave the suppressor attached and retain both flash and recoil mitigation? It's not like you're dual wielding rifles both having the same mount, but you have a shield on one and a suppressor on the other, right?

I understand the OP asked about a mount and not a shield, but it got me thinking. Not meant to be against anyone's individual choices.

Thank you for that!

In my case for shot timers when the barrel is under the handguard. I value my fingers and shot timers don't like suppressors. In other cases to get some braking action since the blast shield is larger diameter but still direct the blast forward.

OK, good example.

Anyone have a specific reason for using one, with a muzzle device outside the handguards?

No prob!

Throw some bluing on there and lets see your engagement! I'll be honest, I don't even check for full engagement any more. They seem to cinch down nice even if I'm off a touch when setting the compound.

One example. I built a blast shield for my YHM QD mounts simply to reduce the noise from the brake when I'm shooting from a bench without the suppressor...which is frequent during load development. I like the brake/comp when shooting offhand but from a bench it just makes every shot waaaay too loud.

I will when I get home from Cleveland again. It locks up tight with very little torque so I imagine its a great fit.
