Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Diffusion material

Post by Capt. Link. »

Old school was a good school when it came to durable suppressors. One technique is using a diffuser section in the blast chamber. These help in heat adsorption and blast baffle spacing ,keeping the wear & heat to the baffles at a minimum. These also are wonderful if you use ablatives as lots of grease can be held in one of these.
I spotted a kitchen item that is similar to stainless pot scrubbers but should last the life of the suppressor. These should pack well because of the chain-mail construction.Made from 316 SS these are great for cast iron pots too.

Here is a diffuser section from a two stage sionics suppressor packed with shoe eyelets.

The only reason after 243 years the government now wants to disarm you is they intend to do something you would shoot them for!

The classical British WW2 Sterling used rolled mesh in its design.

It looks like they have had a long hard life. These old school suppressors will take a beating!
