Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Is there a link on here to list of recipes for successful builds? I’m looking to build my first Form One, and am not sure where to start. I don’t have a lathe, but do have a drill press, and am confident that I can build one, just want some guidance. Really leaning towards one of the Solvent trap design kits, but am open to suggestion.

If it matters, my built will be for a 6.5 Creedmoor, bolt action. I also have a 5.56 AR. Don’t do mag dumps, or full auto.
