45 Cal Suppressor Design Review

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

What's coincidental is that the baffle's profile is almost identical to the Deadair Mask.

I'm sure plenty of ideas have been ripped off from here, but if OSS did it with this one, it was a foolish move for a .22 can. It's performance is a little below average on a rifle, and well below on handguns. Kind of follows their MO, though; make loud, heavy cans with cool looking parts. I seriously wouldn't even use one of theirs if it were free. I get better numbers on both ends of an AR with conventional welded core asymmetric clipped cone baffle designs. And so does most everyone else.

A debt of gratitude is in order for the majority of the proceeded with input. I'm going to handle one thing at any given moment here with my modifications, so be understanding with me. I'm going to expand the separating on the bewilders as recommended and model the crisscross just as a similar pivot however not arranged.

Welcome , Quincy. It looks as if you might be using a translator? No worries, I'm sure we can find a way to decipher. However, it might be best that you start your own thread, instead of piggybacking on this one.

To those suspecting it, the OSS RAD 22 silencer is not a rip off from here. Out the front stuff has been done since at least the 90s by the Russians and coaxial expansion chambers have been done for years, same with finned baffles in the coaxial area. All those companies like AWC, Gemtech, or anyone else that made a silencer with a coaxial area, all they had to do to make their silencer a "flow through" type silencer was to just drill some holes in the front cap. Not sure if you were going for out the front venting with yours, but close enough.

Also see this patent application and date which may interest you dudes: https://patents.google.com/patent/US201 ... as+tomczak

For reference, any of these silencers would be made into a "flow though" type silencer if the manufacturer just drilled holes in the front cap.

That is true though, from what I can remember the DA Mask was the first I'd seen to have a reversed depression K baffle face plate.

Even though OSS is our competitor, I can definitely say they didn't copy anything from this thread though. All of the stuff that's in the OSS RAD 22 silencer has been around for a really long time, with the possible exception of the K baffle modification. I've had plenty of my designs stolen that I'd previously posted on this site, and it does happen, but that isn't the case with this. Keep up the good work with the modeling and machining, it all looks really good.

After nearly a year of waiting for my own equipment to be available for my project, i will be starting the baffles this weekend. I will post some pics of the blanks when they come off the lathe. I still need to wait a bit longer to get them thru the mill with the 4th axis to cut the vanes. That will give me time to make the fixturing for the mill. This has been shear torture waiting for equipment to free up, but a guys got to keep the spindles turning on the jobs that pay the bills!
Stay tuned!

Colo32, an unbridled standing ovation on your
stellar machining and execution!

It is stunning to see the evolution from the Institute's first 1960 demo of
controlling a milling machine with a computer to mill an ashtray with a hyperbolic saddle,
whose S/W based on simple vector analysis, to marveling at your
presentation
. Analogous to the Wright brothers being awestruck looking up at
an F-22 Raptor flying overhead.

Great way to balance disruptive 'Daylight-Savings' bio reseting. :)

Best!

Thanks for the complement! Modern machining can accomplish truly amazing things. The 90% printed parts I have seen from companies like Mori are going to be the next step in that evolution.
I'm looking forward to completing these 2 cans. I hope to find a sound meter to get some data on them when complete.

Nice work!

Reversing blast baffle fin rotation would cause suppressor to not have a tendency to loosen, like the oss design causes a rotation to tighten the suppressor.

Not sure if it matters, just something I noticed.

Can’t wait to see a video of how it performs.
