What to do with Diversified Machine new cone type for 22lr kit?

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

What to do with Diversified Machine new cone type for 22lr kit?

Post by shack92vette »

I received my form 1 approval so I ordered a 22lr kit from Diversified Machine. I haven't seen a cone designed like this one before with a protruding flat area on top, would anyone recommend single or double clip or no clip at all?

My second question pertains to the number of cones. The kit comes with 7 cones (2 x SS and 5 x TI) would there be a performance gain by adding more cones and shorter spacers form Totality Industries?

// I know better than to post anything that sounds too good to be true //

Just trying to help. DM makes awesome solvent parts, I wish I could afford more. Ya'll have given me good poop since first checking in for help with my 1st Form 1, so I'll bow to your knowledge.

I'm not sure what DM was thinking, with regard to those baffles.
They look like Rusty's RSC, with the flat tab from a Surefire Ryder and w/o the Ryder's vented mid washer.

You could cut the entire top off and almost have an RSC.
I'd prefer 10 normal cones to 6 of those.

It has been posted on other sites, but with DM being a "solvent trap" site, giving out info on how to clip their cones wouldn't fare too well in the eyes of the ATF. I wouldn't expect an answer.

OP, the meter you're using is incorrect and very far from the capabilities needed. If you were actually getting 80dB, you'd have the next generation silencer. Hell, anything below 110 would make you The Man, especially from a semi pistol.

There are only 3 meters capable (that reach the min Std) of registering firearm report:
Larson Davis 800b
B&K 2209
B&K Pulse

Also, just because something "sounds" louder, doesn't necessarily make it so. A sound can be at a higher pitch, but a lower dB reading, and it will sound louder.

If you're pleased with the final product, that's what matters :)

This.

Meters other than the ones listed above do not have the rise time or mic sensitivity to pick up peak impulse levels. The B&K 2204 with the peak hold modification doesn't technically have the rise time, but will give accurate enough readings, and the meters can be had cheaper, but it lacks the pedigree for credence, and you're still likely gonna spend a couple grand by the time you get proper microphone, preamplifier and calibrator.

Muzzle SPL from .22 LR pistols is gonna be 150-155 dBA

It is very difficult to get under 120 dBA suppressed on a pistol without either exactly copying a very effective existing design or having an 07/02 to play with designs. It was many, many revisions before I finalized a design that comes in at 118.3 at shooter's ear on a pistol, and that's only with standard velocity or subsonic loads on cerain hosts; typical high velocity ammo has more punch and comes in over 120, even though it's subsonic from the short barrel, and some hosts have port pop over 120 no matter what can is on them.

Getting under 110 is pretty much manual action rifle with integral suppressor territory. SiCo claims 108 with their new thing, but I'll believe it when I see it. I'm at 104.9 on a bolt rifle with a 10" ported barrel and 10" worth of suppressor.
