Baffles rattle in the tube?

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Baffles rattle in the tube?

Post by javaduke »

Folks, what is the proper way to compress baffles so that they don't rattle? (I'm talking about the rimfire suppressor I'm about to build). Can I use rubber O-ring, or a spring / wave washer, or anything else?

How about making the tube a tad shorter?

This. Or shim it.

Don't use springs, O-rings or other compressible items. Remember, not only are you dealing with high pressures, but that as the bullet passes through each aperture, the differential from back side to front will change, more than once. Basically, you'll jackhammer your internals.

Thanks, folks, makes sense, I have some steel shim stock of various thicknesses available. What would be the best place to put a shim, if it makes any difference?

I made my final skirt long and trimmed it until I had about 1/4 turn crush on the stack when tightening the endcap.

This is by far the best option
