Additional holes in endcap?

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Additional holes in endcap?

Post by Random84 »

Out of curiosity- has anyone tried perforated holes in the end cap to see if that helps dissipate the gases coming off the bore?

I wonder if 2-3 small "bleeder holes" might change the pressure differential of the residual gasses coming out of the can in a good way?

See YouTube's innovative suppressor with endcap holes.

That's cool. I wonder if drilling each baffle (without the fancy helix designs) would similarly have benefits...

Way back someone posted that for .22 can he tried holes in the
first baffle after expansion chamber but gave to no real measurements.

Has anyone thought of incorporating a helical-wire-cage between the I.D.
of the can and the baffle stack of say K's? Then the gasses from the
expansion chamber would also flow rotationally along outer ribs,
in the vein of emulate the OSS.

First 'back of envelope' sketch:
Two flat rings with SS bicycle perpedicular spokes forming a roll cage.

Metaphoric image, tall with skinny wires.: << https://pellethead.com/product/squirrel ... gIvv_D_BwE >>

Heat and twist around a mandrel This then forms helical spacer between baffle
stack and can wall. Easy to envision how to form expansion chamber and corresponding'
holes in front cap.

Gunny posted an interesting ported endcap some years back in this thread:

Here's his picture:

I've tried this on both .22lr and an airgun. Can't say for certain there was any increase in suppression efficiency, but it didn't hurt either.

I'm wondering if a few small bleed holes (or chamfers) around the edges of the baffles, offset for asymmetry and then a few peripheral vents in the end cap might A: help disrupt the flow via pressure gradients and B: help reduce blowback?

I have a quietbore Ti kit on order so Hmmm....

I had this idea years ago. We had a vigorous discussion.
It turned out that Gunny50 had experimented with a design which used a "cone" around the exit hole and there were several "bleeder" holes drilled on a slant to pull the exhaust off of boreline and also "smooth" the gas exiting by exchanging volume and multiple paths to lower the exhaust pressure and velocity.
