Purchasing 17-4

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

You can get it by the foot from McMaster Carr. They are not the cheapest but they are quick.

I am looking for a couple sizes in long sticks. I keep finding sites that want me to request a quote and was really hoping to hear of a place that is decent in price before giving out information.

@ECCO where do you get your material?

What do you consider a "long stick"? From a metal supplier, sticks are usually between 20-21'LG. You can't usually get anything over 6' shipped to you, it'd have to go freight$$.

I checked my local supplier and they have nothing in manageable lengths, in their drops section.

Check out these guys. They have good prices and usually a lot in-stock.

As long as I can get the stick without paying freight.

Bummer. That site doesn't have the sizes I'm looking for.

I ended up placing an order with onlinemetals.com. They had a 20% discount code available.

I was having issues checking out and found a "Go to classic site" button at the top. Clicked on that and the prices were even lower. Saved $40!!

Ryerson metals. Still not cheap, but best price I've found other than the occasional clearance item on Amazon. They give a pretty good price break if you order five 12' bars of a given diameter, but that's expensive even with the little stuff (I just paid nearly $700 for 60' of 1" bar)

That's a good price per inch, but that is a lot of steel. :D
