MAC style can for 50 cal?

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

MAC style can for 50 cal?

Post by Zero99z »

So, I have a feeling I'm asking a stupid question cuz the design is outdated, but was brainstorming and thought MAC style with a larger diameter expansion chamber would be a good idea for my 50 cal. Of course I wouldn't use wipes, I'd use conical baffles in the smaller diameter tube, about 1.8" ID and 2"OD x 12"x14" long, and use a 17-4 flat disc to create a 2 part expansion chamber in the larger tube, 3" OD x 6"-8" long and 2.75 ID. Will a Mac style can work?

That's a large amount of volume so I don't see it not working. However, you don't need that overkill. Today's 50cal xans are much smaller than years past. A 2.5x16 would do fine. Maybe 5 baffles, progressively spaced, should do ya. Try to keep it under 2 kilos.

Weight shouldn't be an issue as I'm also using it to tame recoil so I can use my ATN 4K on my rifle, which only weighs in at 27.4lbs. I'm looking at this particular design cuz it should be fairly inexpensive and won't require much more than drilling and welding as I plan on using Napa 4003 solvent trap baffles. As much as I would like to do what you and more experienced builders are capable of, my fabrication skills aren't there yet, so I'm trying to play it safe. I probably will shorten it up a bit so it's less overkill.

A little update, I have settled on a design. It's a bit unconventional, but it should work alright.
