Resin printing a silencer

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

This was an interesting video.

One can envision in the near future
a recipe of metallic particles included
in printing cans. Then the final step
would require hardening by cooking in an oven.

Brave new world.

We already have 3D printed titanium silencers

Historian , the future is here. Low cost 3D printers are capable of producing MIM like parts. The post processing can be done in house outsourced for a reasonable fee.

It doesn't seem like it would take much effort to convert a SLS printer to print metal powder instead of nylon powder.

RSilvers videos on 3D printing helped to push me into buying both a Resin and Standard FDM 3D printer.

3D printers create useful products in of themselves and can create directly ceate production injection molds. The can also create masters for all sorts of casting. Search "lost pla casting".

It can also be a gateway into machine building and programming.

Yup. My buddy does some home mold making and casting. He had this tricky little widget he wanted to make and was going to make the template from wood, per usual. However, it was pretty intricate and probably would have taken him hours to carve/fabricate it. We modeled it up and I 3D printed it out. Poured some plaster around it, fired it in the BBQ grill (to melt the PLA and harden the plaster), plopped it in a sand frame, and cast it w/ Aluminum. Came out extremely nice. You could even make out the natural layers created by the 3d printing process.

I've got some more parts I want to try and do. My rc truck has some plastic parts (the transmission and transfer cases, specifically) I would like to cast in Al.

Thank you all for the eye-opening and astonishing updates on the progress that
has taken a quantum leap in 3D printing. Joyous news.
This lead me to discovering "SIG Introduces 3D Printed Silencers in Titanium and Inconel".

An "Astonishing Science Fiction" idea for a computer controlled layering for metal deposition
first popped into mind in 1960 when helping a down the hall research
project manager on metal vapor-depositon
who needed translation of the latest French Journal article on said subject.

Now to envision how to modify the Atlas 618 to also do metal 3D printing.
That would be a real 'kick-in-the-can' for innovation.

You guys are the greatest.
And this includes R.S., our gracious host.
