Transformer / Optimus type suppressor

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Transformer / Optimus type suppressor

Post by Josiahclemence »

Sorry if this has been answered before but I can't seem to search the forum right now. I am working on my first form 1 and was thinking about making a silencer that could be shortened like the Griffin Optimus for a long or short length can. My idea is to make a .311 can with a 4.5" stack of baffles that could be attached to a 12" over the barrel section for a shorter oal but larger volume on a bolt gun or a 3" rear section for a longer length can that could be used on guns like the sks or ak that have sightblocks in the way. How would you declare the length on something like that for the form 1? Thank you for any help.

Registered length is longest configuration.
Just make sure that when you're using the shorter config, that the portion which has been removed can NOT make a silencer, on it's own.

Thank you. I thought that might be the case but considering the penalty is pretty stiff for doing something wrong I figured better to ask.
