To drill, or not to drill? Gas defuser for 50bmg can

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

To drill, or not to drill? Gas defuser for 50bmg can

Post by Zero99z »

I just finished up some welding on the QD mount, an I'm wondering if I should drill holes in the inconel tube or just cut it off. I pressed and pinned the tube into a 304 SS flange, along with a short piece of inconel exhaust pipe to prevent erosion, with the thicker tube acting as a seat for the muzzle brake (I'll update with pictures when I get everything welded up.

Anyway, would drilling a series of 1/2" holes in the tube do anything to gas flow? I figure it would create a lot of turbulence in the blast chamber before moving through the rest of the can. I could be wrong, fluid dynamics is not my specialty.

As promised, and update with pics of the (almost) finished mount. Almost because I ran out of welding gas.
