R8 my 3D printed Form1 design

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

R8 my 3D printed Form1 design

1.5" OD, 8" long.

7 baffles (.24" bullet path), 3 wipes, and a pretty generously reinforced blast chamber.

It's designed to screw onto the end of my 9mm Form 1 can I'm building, to allow .22lr to be used with it. It will also screw directly onto that can's muzzle thread adapter, to be used as a standalone .22 can. By way of a coupler, all components and wipes can be assembled into one functioning can, so there are no "extra" bits, as it were.

Not much else to say about it. Probably print it out of nylon or polycarbonate. Just trying to decide if notching the baffles is a good idea or not. I've heard anecdotal reports that .22 cans benefit more from a tight fitting bullet path than from notching and such. Opinions on that would be welcome.

Why build something that's easily machined?
Why are you using plastics? Need to be overly thick, wasting crucial volume.
Always clip baffles.

IMHO, it's a waste of a stamp. You're not doing anything that hasn't been done, it won't be an optimal design for 22lr, and it won't last as long as traditional materials.

Your silencer has a silencer.
Being able to sat that alone is worth the $200.
So much has changed since my last form 1

A 8.00" suppressor with a .24 bore will cause all kinds of baffle strikes.
Wipes cause much inaccuracy plus you will need a FFL to replace them.
Not a good stamp investment as designed.
The only reason after 243 years the government now wants to disarm you is they intend to do something you would shoot them for!

With a bullet diameter of .223 -.225 going down a bore of .240 for 8" your threading better be perfect. I would not run it that tight. Listen to the Captain.

I can't agree with this part.
My 4.5" AR15/22, can hit 3.5" swingers @100yds, from a wiped can.

Also, the end user can legally replace wipes. ATF has never reversed this decision.

Thank you as I thought wipes were under ATF regulation.
I'm happy you are getting good accuracy from your .22 AR-15. I have not had the same experience. My only exposure to wipes were in using the venerable WOX-1 aka Hush puppy. Rabbit sized prey had a 50/50 chance at 25yds though sound suppression was superb. The inaccuracy of that design has affected my taste for them
I'm guessing your can is a hybrid design that features baffles w/ a end wipe and not built like the WOX-1's stack ?

I'd say you're right. I'm just wiped at the exit, not throughout.
