223 K baffles?

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

223 K baffles?

Post by mattman0o0o »

Anyone done this? If so wouldn't they have to be beefier around the cone/disk joint area?

The good Capt. has provided information on K's being used on centerfire rifle rounds.
I'd hate to misquote him so I'd suggest a site search w/ the correct parameters.

My recollection has them being a useful albeit tedious design.
You'd yield the greatest results through testing, but this isn't available to US Form 1 builders.

Any particular reason you're querying this route?

joe curtis of curtis tactical claims his k baffles are equally effective as his cones in .308, so it might be possible to optimize a .223 k can.

K baffles need to be reinforced at the edge for centerfire.AWC did this by welding.I have done this by threading the interior of the suppressor and screwing each baffle in place.I like the sound a K baffle has over other designs but you must put more work into them over ported cone types.

I only reason I asked was I remembered seeing it in the past but couldn't locate where. Most likely the Capt's post. Welding and threading the tube sounds like it might be too much work for me.

I did mine as a mix of K's & cones - for no good reason other than I wanted to see what happened. It's ok. Not an SPR or NT-4, but it's decent.

You can search the completed build thread for it. I think I put some pics of the K's up.
