408 cheytac can- (updated with range report) 4/10/09

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Ok, the back side I removed as much material as possible. I started out with a boring bar but I couldn't seem to get the right angle so I used a series of drill bits (like a the steps in reverse if you know what I mean) this way the gas is not shooting down the tube to the next baffle but spreading out when it hits the next baffle. When I made the OD and the hole I used a 4 jaw (the front of the baffle) but removing material off the back I just used a 3 jaw. It's easier to set up and not as critical.

Great job Jimmy.
What kind of stainless rod did you use for your stick welder?
Any idea where I can get it?

What's the overall thickness between inner and outer sides of the stepped cones?

How did you turn the inside then, without having any outside/inside corners hit or anything? Did you start with a smooth cone and turn the steps from there?

Yep, Formula I made a smooth cone with a boring bar at an angle then used a series of drill bits to take out more material.

I might have to try it that way. I was playing around with some scrap and I used a turning tool to get the steps on the outside, without starting from a smooth cone. or the inside, I was boring it to .100 less that the outer dimensions. It was a little confusing, so your way sound much easier.

:D Now you just have to make (or buy)some reduced capacity cases + the right bullet length for the ultimate silenced ammo

St33v haven't coated it yet but I realized my end baffle was very thick so I chucked it up and thinned it down to save some weight.I hated to get rid of the welds but to save some weight I profiled the tube some. Now its ready to be coated. Thanks for all the positive comments it's been a fun build.

Lookin' great Jimmy. That's one mean machine! What I can gather from the video it works pretty darn well. Nice system you've got there. (And a good thing too, at only 6'7" you must get picked on a lot...

I'm supprised that sombody hasen't been on here yet screaming about how the step down exterior conture is a patent infringment on AAC's desgine.

Thats a sweet rig (the whole thing) you have their , what did the final weight of the suppressor come out at?

James -I haven't weighed it so I will have to do it. My baffles are probabley way to thick inside. I didn't want it to blow up in my face. This was my first can and I learned allot.
I think AAC has applied for a patient so I doubt I violated any laws and this is a "one off" and I'm not selling them so I doubt they are worried about it. I'm not putting "front toward enemy" or anything to indicate that it's an AAC can. They could do a much better job.

The words "Front Toward Enemy" appear on the Claymore mine. I don't think that is an AAC product.
