longer=better??

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Post by paltik1 »

im wondering if having a longer silencer in a M4 will make it more quiet? i see that the average length of M4 silencer is 8" (?)...what if it is 10"? please share your ideas/comments. thank you

A little, but not much -- as a lot of the noise comes from the gas escaping from the action. A 10 inch can might be just 2 dB quieter than an 8 inch can.

thank you for the very quick reply....the reason I ask is that im planning to have my 10.5" M4 silenced...considering that i can afford to have a longer can versus the 14.5" barrel... what about a 12" can for a 10.5" m4? thanks :roll:

I would not be sure without testing it. It would be interesting to try. It is not a safe bet though as a good idea.
