Lathe Accident: WARNING NSWE, very graphic

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Any rotating equipt. Have had a glove sucked into a drill press.
Just ate some hide but sure chewed up the glove. In a hurry and got careless. And bigg buffers. They will throw a piece of metal back at you

+1 to your sigline. I'm hoping for quick, painless, and me being unaware.
"Your" does not equal "You're", the contraction for "You are".

You can see a file caught up in the clothes around the chuck, thats probably what got him so close to the workpiece.
This is why i always use a t shirt tucked in my pants when using the lathe.

that will make you want to work naked with a cup in a jock strap. Never seen nothing like that before. We've had two guys at work loose two fingers each. That was bad enough seeing that.

And Boys that's why its always a good Idea to wear your safety glasses....holy hell!!!

Really its always safer to run a belt driven lathe than a gear driven lathe that will suck you in and ruin your day.....or life.

I don't know about that, the largest Lion lathe we have has a 36" chuck and has a 15 foot slant bed way and is a belt driven lathe.... I think cognitive awareness of self and machine is the best way to prevent this...

A buddy of mine works for Novelis in Ohio, co-worker of his lost his dominant arm earlier this year in a lathe. Said the guy was an accountant, had lost his job recently and took this job to make ends meet.

Went to high school with someone that was scalped by a drill press. Long hair. Reattached with infection being the main enemy.

Probably a drunk russian operating this lathe. At least the lathe is russian, it is a machine delivered by "Stanko-import" in moscow. it has at least 15kW engine and no brakes. Very good and accurate machines if you know how to operate them...

The head position between pic 2 and pic 3 is completely different for some reason.

Wow, thanks for posting this. That's some serious carnage. Indeed it makes you think twice about safety, etc. It is very easy to become complacent when operating machines... especially on repetitive tasks.
