Form 1 50bmg suppressor

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Srm- yes full power factory loads. JohnnyO's can was part of my inspiration. His can puts mine to shame in craftmanship.

Hi,

Congrats !, it's simple the best (beast ?) !

One question: How long do you think it's enough just for subsonic loads ?

Best,

Paul

Paul- I'm not sure how small to go on subs. I would look at some 510 wisper cans and go from there. Mine with subs is very, very quiet. Of course it's way overkill for subs.

This thread is the reason why I joined this forum... I will be filling out my Form 1 in October. I have some money coming to me in March to buy materials, so hopefully my Form 1 will clear by then and I will embark on my own 50 suppressor project. Thanks for doing this thread OP!

First off, mega props on nearly PERFECT 408-50BMG can! :P You used most of the best principles from the past 70 yrs of Suppressor R&D. Each additional comment is only a suggestion for your consideration in polishing of "the Perfect Build."
1: Using a 2point telescopic mount around the barrel you could squeeze out a few more cubic-inches of blast chamber volume without adding to total barrel length. (Especially useful for large case volume cartridges.)
2: By inserting an internally-teethed gear-shaped spacer to line the Blast chamber, you can dramatically increase heatsinking via surface area. (Ie: like cooling fins on air-cooled radial engine cylinder sleeves) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fin_(extended_surface)
3: Use a smooth diffractor cone to maintain laminar flow pulling the bore-stream of gas from behind the bullet, then use stepped cones for remaining baffles to increase turbulence and wavefront annihilation.
