P22, fake suppressor to real suppressor

Has anyone taken one of the tactical innovations (I think) fake suppressors and form 1'd it to manufacture a real suppressor out of it? Interesting idea for a homebrew suppressor next time I have $200 lying around for a stamp.

It would only be 5 inches long, and engraved with their retarded fake info on it.


If you have the means to bore out the fake one, and thread it for an endcap, i would just make one from scratch.

Yep your better off making one from scratch the fake suppressor is a solid cylinder with the bore hole through the center it would take a lot of work. Your better off starting with a hollow piece of tubing.

I don't know what you gain by using their piece as a starting point.

You still have their information engraved on the side of it,which will have to be removed or deleted some how and engraved with your info. I imagine the easiest way would be to turn the whole piece in the lathe but that would ruin the finish.

So basically the only good thing you have is a perfectly threaded end.

If you have the lathe to do all of this
- bore out the fake can
- make the baffles/monocore to go in
- thread the end of the fake can/make the cap

Why pay $30 + other raw materials cost.

Really just the mounting threads. Picked the fake can/ thread adaptor up cheap and figured I could make something decent out of it. Maybe I'm thinking I can polish a turd til it turns to gold? Maybe I'll start looking for a new project.

I'm with you on the possibility of getting this piece to work but when you figure the other expenses involved this piece does not offer much in terms of moving the project along.

^^ This. If the OD of the dummy suppressor matched the ID of your intended suppressor tubing, you could use the 1st .75-1" for the muzzle mount. Turn some grooves in the fake suppressor then do a roll crimp on the outside tubing to lock it in. You'd still be stuck with aluminum mounting threads which may be less than ideal.

I'm kind of thinking this. It will be (if i ever do anything with this) a scrap metal/spare junk suppressor made of old washers, motor valves or tubing.

I like the idea of using 2 diameters for the can. Maybe just use the first inch then expand out to another piece of tubing .5 to .75 inches wider in diameter. Definitly not a tactical masterpiece, but a fun grouse hunting/ bluejay removing pistol.
