Re: Hi new member building 4 suppressors
Yeah bolts noisy but peaple don't associate bolt noise as a gun shot
Re: Hi new member building 4 suppressors
Wow! Your machining skills are amazing! Question, how did you machine the center holes in the mono-core sparrow clone? I assume there is a turning operation of the core, then pocketing operations then something to machine the center holes....zevdogs wrote:This is my first build on a smith & Wesson m&p 15-22
And this is the core.. I have a sparrow but I dident want 16 inches of barrel plus 6 inches of suppressor plus I plan on useing hyper volicity ammo
I needed stainless and at the time sparrow dident come in stainless .... I also wanted a larger blast chamber
The center of the baffels have a larger devide wich I think helps out with the high volicity ammo

Re: Hi new member building 4 suppressors
I'm not shure what you mean by center hole ?? The bore wheare the bullet goes through was drilled in a lathe leatnth wise and the pockets wear done on a Cnc mill and their is a video of it on my YouTube page
Re: Hi new member building 4 suppressors
Yes, I mean the series of holes where the "bullet" path would be. So this was done on a lathe with a center drill? Was the drill long enough? I will check out the Youtube page!zevdogs wrote:I'm not shure what you mean by center hole ?? Thanks!
Re: Hi new member building 4 suppressors
After the outside was turned to size I put it in a collet lathe drilled the front end then flipped it around drilled the rest of the way through and machined the threads that go on the barrel so they wear concentric with the bore..... Then baffles wear machined in a mill

My new .308 host
This is the finished suppressors it's all 316 stainless steal 1 1/2 diameter and eight inches long
Suppressor before it was welded up
And a closer look at the steped cones ... Bore is .350 dia
And the YouTube link shooting STANDARD FMJ BULK ROUNDS Listen close and you can hear the rounds impact in the hill about 200 yards away

Very nice. Thanks for continuing this thread.

I've seen other major manufacturers use them and they add surface area, plus they look cool lolDr.K wrote:Cool stuff. Why stepped cones?

I think surface area has more to do with suppression than I thought when I started this addiction .zevdogs wrote:I've seen other major manufacturers use them and they add surface area, plus they look cool lolDr.K wrote:Cool stuff. Why stepped cones?
I base this reasoning on nothing more than imagining the fireball soaking into the chamber surfaces. I take that back, I made an integral. 22 several years ago that was better when stuffed with chore boy scrubbers

What major manufacturers are using step cones like that?zevdogs wrote:I've seen other major manufacturers use them and they add surface area, plus they look cool lolDr.K wrote:Cool stuff. Why stepped cones?

I think the m4 2000 is AAC and it's got steps and the saker has the slot in the boreBendersquint wrote:What major manufacturers are using step cones like that?zevdogs wrote:I've seen other major manufacturers use them and they add surface area, plus they look cool lolDr.K wrote:Cool stuff. Many off thease suppressors have steped cones

ONLY # 10 uses a step cone, all the rest are just smooth cones or some other type baffle.
The side by side picture does not show step cones.......that is the digitization of the picture those baffles are smooth in real life.

Smooth cones maintain Laminar Flow. Stepped cones cause turbulance. I like using a smooth diffractor cone to peel the bore stream away from the bullet, then stepped surfaces for remaining cones. (First smooth as glass, rest like driving over speed bumps or rutted dirt road.)

Doug Melton's Aztec baffle is a stepped cone.Bendersquint wrote:What major manufacturers are using step cones like that?

can you provide dimensions/design data for the .308 suppressor?
