2 questions re; .338
if doing a monocore .338, would a wall of .1023 (ss) be enough (o.d. of 1.5") for the outer tube and what should the bore be for .338?

I didn't think you were a monocore fan...what's up with that?

Jus, understood.
a bro asked me what wall thk to use and i said i will find out for him. im still not a mono-core fan. dont worry im not changing my mind.
Paul, i think 9".

no sir. i got a bro that has to do a mono-core and of course ill help any way i can. we dont want to make a stainless grenade!
im just not a mono-core fan although i do recognize what aac has done with the titan and the cyclops etc.
i have stood next to the cyclops at the 08 and 09 shoots and i was amazed how it tames the blast.

Re: 2 questions re; .338
well-
for a thin walled pipe
P=(2*S*T)/(OD*SF)
where:
P = ID pressure (psi)
T = Wall thickness (in)
OD = Outside Diameter (in)
SF = Safety factor
S = Material strength (psi)
OD=1.5
T=.1023
S=60000 (assuming 316 SS)
and with varying safety factors:
SF=1 => Yield pressure= 8200 psi
SF=1.5 => Yield pressure= 5500 psi
SF=2 => Yield pressure= 4100 psi
SF=3 => Yield pressure= 2700 psi
But- A silencer isn't technically a pressure vessel, as it sees some impact loadings, and fatigue, and temperature differentials.
I wouldn't have any problem testing that out though.
