Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Anyone have experience with the tormach cnc machines?

If you are doing some research on which mill to get, take a look at the Novakon NM-200 Series 2 CNC mill as well.

Duality lathe looks appealing but I would pass on it, won't be able to serve you at all. Better luck buying a Harbor Freight bench top lathe, its crap.
