Sometimes ya gotta say WTF and and try a 223 AR integral

16" barrel 30 deg ports back to the 11" mark on the barrel with 60 deg baffles that index on a step
at each port and they all snap together.
The stepped baffle is threaded 1/2x28 so it screws on the muzzle threads to keep all baffles tight, the last two baffles
get the press by the welded on end cap.
Tube is 316 stainless 1.65 OD .065 wall, Blast baffle is 17-4 all the rest of the baffles are 316.
I'm not done with the rear gas block/end cap as it will have a adjustable gas valve on/off when its all done.
It all came out to 18.25 oal length and is a little quieter than my SPR-M4 on a 16" barrel host when shot side by side.
The best thing about this build is it came out short enough to be like a 10.5 SBR with a can and I get no blow back
at all in your face and it runs cleaner too.
I think the extra volume of the can eats up alot of the strong blow back as the gas pressure is not as high
and has more room to play instead of coming back up the barrel and in the action.
I'm glad I decided to build it as it worked out the way I hoped it would :D

Very cool 8) would you be so kind as to post some detail shots of the barrel and maybe spread out your baffles so they are visible...from your description I'm assuming they are just 60 deg cones but still curious. Pretty sharp the way you cut the vents in the back of the blast chamber....too bad it doesn't show when assembled.

All that extra tube behind that blast chamber shows it gets used as it gets dirty as hell.
They are 60 deg cones with the spacer built in, each baffle started out as solid round stock.
I will get some more pics

That is pretty effin' cool. Thanks for the pics.

Tested velocity yet?

Very impressive. I'm curious on how you did the gas block and gas tube through the rear end cap. Could you post some pics and/or drawings of that? Also, how is the rear end cap secured to the barrel? Would love to see a more detailed pic of that as well.

Great build!

OH, on edit: How much does that weigh?

Are you just using pressure from that rear chamber to feed the gas tube?

What is the velocity of the bullets 55gr, 62gr etc :?:

That's very cool. Excellent work. 223 semi is going to be loud no matter what, but it's cool you got a longer barrel and no blowback vs a 10.5. You obviously have the tools and knowledge required.

Can't wait for this thread to be referenced when someone with no experience with suppressors, no mill, and no lathe wants to Form1 this.

What did it come out weighing without the barrel?

I`ve seen that barrel in another post.
That is some fantastic work I must say.
Referring to your caged k`s, you say they snap together. Would you mind explaining this because I just can`t grasp the concept?

I have not shot any ammo through the chroni yet but I'm sure the
velocity is the same or close to shooting with a 10.5' barrel

The barrel all asembled with the can came out Five ounces heavier than my AAC SPR-M4 on a 16" barrel.
The barrel lost a good chunk of weight after porting and profiling and the stainless I used is strong enough that the tube was turned down to loose weight too.
I could have made it lighter with a shorter tube behind the blast chamber but the extra volume gives the gas more room to play so alot less blow back comes back in the action and my face.
The integral feels less nose heavy than the 16" upper with a can on the end, most likely because less steel hanging so far out front.
I could have made a barrel at 10.5" then made a can to permatach to it but I wanted to try something diferent
for a change and WTF its only a $200 stamp little $ in steel and more fun to build.

The gas tube is atached like a brake line on a car, threaded nut that the tube goe's through and when tight it seals
better than a normal gas block.
The rear end cap is threaded on the barrel tight and a pin on the bottom locks it on almost like a pinned gas block.

These baffles snap together too but they are not the sorta caged K's like I used in the 22 Lr integral.

Uhhh..... DAMN, that's effe'n NICE !!!

Excellent work.

What is the weight of the completed suppressed barrel assy. vs. a standard 16" barrel?

So, your business plan is to form some deep-cover, super-secret, black-ops, government-funded, gun-ninja, skunk-works 'Think Tank': except it's for developing NFA goodies, not national security policy?

And I'm invited to the party?

Sweet Jesus. Finally. I'm not getting any younger.

Can't speak for redtazdog, but I'd work with him. I'm in.

I'll need a new cover, papers, and 100 grand deposited in an offshore account. Now, when do we get started? Pm me for contact info!!!!

Lol, to blend in here in our AO, NW Arkansas, you just need bubba teeth, overals, no shirt, and ample back hair. If you can meet these quals, Ill get you a new birth certificate just like Obama's!

How well do you think this would translate into a shorter barrel? Say, starting a 10.5" barrel, ports starting around the 6"-7" mark with an OAL of about 12" or so? I know suppressors on a 7" AR15 barrel are "difficult" due to bullet precession & blast. Just wondering if an integral like this could work around those issues.

Thanks for your responce on the "break line" attachment of the tube. I considered that also but had clearance issues. This is what I wound up doing

Image

I'm still curious though. I do not see any tube on the inside going to the gas port in the barrel. Are you using an open port on the inside of the rear endcap to collect the gas pressure, or is the tube just not installed in your picture.

Thanks.

The gas tube is not in the picture, your setup is now like mine
