Hello,
I live up in Canada. I would like to build a fake suppressor - in other words very little sound attenuation allowed. That is all I am allowed up here.
I can buy one for $500 or so, but I am more interested in building one. The muzzle on this TP9 is approximately 1 inch with some lugs present.
Where do I start? I don't need a BATF form.

Re: Fake can
Get a thick piece of tubing the diameter you want it to look like for a can and thread the rear so it will fit on the TP9 or to accept a mount that will fit your TP9.bluejay wrote:Hello,

Fake cans are the easiest thing to do if you have access to a lathe.
On your own for the laws up there, I have heard of only 1 case where someone was prosecuted for owning a silencer and it only reduced the signature by 3 dB.

Re: Fake can
Thank you. As long as it attenuates like the $500 one, I believe I am safe.

They seriously are charging $500 for a piece of tubing?bluejay wrote:Thank you. As long as it attenuates like the $500 one, I believe I am safe.
Can you post a link to what they are selling? I hope there is more to it than that as for $500 you can get a decent silencer down here.
Yikes!

Please don't get me wrong. The dealer with these B&T accessories is great. You are getting 100% service and support for your product, from a company that will be there for the long haul. I like them.
At this link choose price list and a pdf file opens. On the second page it is described as;

There is no picture but you can see suppressors at the Brugger and Thomet website.

The OP stated in his first post that the gun is a TP9 which is 9mm and it has special lugs to attach.
The link you posted is for 22lr, not 9mm and doesn't have the lugs that he needs to attach to his TP9.

It should make it really quite, if you read the description (the thing is solid, NO HOLE).bluejay wrote:Thank you. As long as it attenuates like the $500 one, I believe I am safe.

How is that possible?PostalGlock'n wrote:

I would think that would be a bad shitstorm waiting to happen to somebody with no through hole.
If they can sell it to someone for that kind of cash......I need to go back to work and build fake cans.

Re: Fake can
How? If its a display model only then it wouldn't be accidentally taken to the range. They are perfectly fine, seen many done that way and never heard of anyone every firing a round through it.twodollarbill wrote:How is that possible?PostalGlock'n wrote:

Those arent generally sold to the public anyways.
Re: Fake can
Jee Whiz, it's worse than I thought? I didn't notice the part about "solid".
That would make a lot of noise as the gun blows up, sheesh.

Re: Fake can
My bad!!!
Kind of like an Uzi display barrel then.
I was thinking this solid chunk was being slid over a ready to fire weapon.

Re: Fake can
You can make one for about $30 with the lug feature. Anodize it at home and never look back. Thats what I would do.bluejay wrote:Jee Whiz, it's worse than I thought? I didn't notice the part about "solid".

Re: Fake can
Did you read what I posted? He has a TP9, wiht special lugs, that fake can WILL NOT WORK since it doesn't have the special lugs for attachment.Reverend Ron wrote:My badBendersquint wrote:The OP stated in his first post that the gun is a TP9 which is 9mm and it has special lugs to attach.Reverend Ron wrote:You can buy fake suppressor for $29.99

Re: Fake can
499 for a chunk of metal without even a hole through it?
They are out of stock? Does this mean Canadians are gullible? Is this a joke or a real product?
