9mm K can

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

9mm K can

Post by CMV »

Finished a 9mm K can today. Nothing fancy - pics & vid below. Works really well but a hair too heavy or too long - it made my Beretta 92 ammo sensitive. Video is 147gr Winchester Ranger T - my 147gr MBC handloads must be a little lighter & I got failures to extract or stovepipes about 1 out of every 3-4 with that ammo. Ti tube & caps, baffles are 7075. Too lazy to grind a tool to do the faces of the Ks with a round dish so just did them flat. Still worked pretty well. I also strayed from the norm a bit with the mouse holes. I used a 5/16 endmill instead of a 3/8 - I always think mine come out oversize & wanted to see what would happen using a smaller tool. Scoops were a 3/8 ball endmill. Bore is .400 - X drill slightly oversize.

Still need to engrave & Cerakote, but got all the machine work done in about 8 hrs. Not a race, but I was pleased with how well everything went & 8 hrs start to finish is pretty good for me.

Nice job, it looks clean and sounds Hollywood quiet, at least in the video.

Your front endcap looks really heavy though. Maybe I'm just seeing it wrong, do you have a drawing of your parts? What's it weigh? Any reason you made all the baffles stainless? It will be nice to throw the baffles in the dip if you run cast bullets.

CMV said the baffles are 7075. That's an aluminum alloy. Nice strong stuff, turns a lot more cleanly without lube than 6061.

Nice Sounding can. Id suggest a slight bevel on the end cap edges just to make it less sharp and yeah, the front cap looks a bit heavy, but if it's Ti perhaps not an issue.
