Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

It will be interesting to see what FRP is in the new can. SWR put that space there for a reason.
less space = less frp period, end of it.

You should call them up and let them know how to improve their design.

Not all baffle designs are the same as far as how much blast chamber is needed, or calibers for that matter. Do you really know more than silencerco? Our aeriolo baffle (yea, thats what it looks like!) performs better, with very minimal frp if it has a comparatively long blast chamber.

going on what is out there and if you guys take a look there is no "blast chamber" before the first baffle in the tirants, multimounts, evo etc and the ocatane doesnt perform as well so make the damn blast chamber smaller and get it done.

May 2012 be the year of changes.
We may see less baffles can with larger blast chamber and less frp.

like this.

I and a colleague have been working along the same lines more expansion space fewer baffles less FRP and back pressure.

Hey windsor, why don't you try making an expansion chamber at the end? ;) . Trust me.

How does that affect the preformance Red?
Also, would you subtract the extra space needed from the blast chamber or eliminate one of the front baffles?

my 2 cents, an expansion chamber at the far end wont do much. the gas is lower pressure by then. you want to keep working it some, otherwise you are wasting space.

Winsor, what is holding the baffle stack in place in the profile image? between the booster and the first baffle there is nothing holding things in place?

What this does mainly is to elevate the pitch of the sound. It also relieves pressure a but and helps focus the gases some. But the main purpose is to provide a higher tone, which as we've said before, makes the sound less gunshot-like and helps it carry less.
