building a suppressor for ar-15 5.56

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

The purpose of the mouse holes on baffle 2 and 4 are???

Why those in particular?

Would putting a half notch on the cone mouths have helped?

Notching the baffle bores is for a diff purpose than the ports ( they are not mouse holes).
Notching the baffles is for suppression.

Beautiful work.
What holds the outside tubing to the end caps. Threaded or welded or?

Welds front and rear. I don't believe in threaded caps for rifle cans.

If you make CAD models, it’s not going to be a big deal for you to design your own Can.

Start drawing (no matter how bad the drawings are at the beginning) and we’ll help you to finish up. You are plenty of time while waiting for your papers.

This is the last one I have designed: 1.5x9 (large expansion chamber due to Customer request). 7 Stepped Baffles (60 degree cones in/out and inner cone for a 1 inch countersink). All SS. 28 ounces. I prefer 1.5x8.5 and 8/9 Baffles.

Best,

Paul

Looks great! Very nice machine work. Get any pics of the welds?

She's likely on the 'heavy' side, but most SS F1 builds tend to be chubby monkeys. No worries - Better safe than sorry. It should perform well and last forever.

Nice machining and welding.

Reread this so often, what wall did you use on the baffle walls and cones?

Did you use a manipulator / welding lathe?

.065 on the cone, .050 on the "cone spacer".

i did not weld it myself. i work at a machine shop, in the office, engineering side. i had our guys weld it. not sure how they did it. i know we don't have a welding lathe.

From first hand experience the threaded end caps will come off and all the baffles will stay locked in from the buildup in the pockets in the spacers. Run it up to 800*F and its gonna be full of carbon, run it north of 1100*F and you will have legit rings of copper deposited from the jackets on the rounds.

Hey bud the easiest way would probably be just upload it to youtube and post a link to it here.

Yes there is but that is used for the muzzle device that the suppressor attaches to not the suppressor itself.
