Found an old German suppressor design

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Post by Enfield577 »

Thought it might be of some interest, I found this old German suppressor design, looks quite complicated, but they say it works well

For the era that was produced it was a decent design, baffles today are easier to machine and produce better results.

Yep sure would have been a pig to make, especially the vane assembly

Hi,

The one shown is not really that old: 1963, built by Walther Engineering.

Later on, 1969, they count on Mr. Siegfried Hubner to design and develop a new Can: Fancy Cones.

But for me, by far, the most innovative design in Europe dates on the range 1937-1942 by Beretta: The Cones SWR is using today on their brand new Cans.

There are some papers that says that by 1914 Cones were used in some Suppressors in WW-I.

For all those designs what I found in common, beside innovation, was the use of spring as an active part of the internals.

Best,

Paul

I had the privledge of firing a Walther MPK with this silencer along with AAC founder Kevin Brittingham at a U.S. Army facility here in GA a decade ago. Interestingly, when I took the can apart, the third baffle (the K looking baffle) was installed backward from the position it has in the O.P. picture. Despite the baffle reversal, the can was a solid performer.
