Bear with me here. Barrel has to be 16" and a screw on can for a 45. Take and turn the barrel down for 4" and then thread. Ream the barrel down to the 4" and cut 3 or 4 slots length wise. This will slide into the suppressor. This would make a 12" barrel on a legal length of 16". Possible? Doesn't look like it would affect suppressor. Might have to be a 9mm host barrel using a 45 can? Just curious. thanks

Not exactly sure what you are asking......

Are you asking if the suppressor will be effective with a 12" barrel slotted and porting into the supressor?

No SBR, just sticking some of the reduced barrel into the suppressor like an extra long flash hider. Making the overall length shorter while keeping the legal over 16" barrel. Making any sense? Almost like a reflex - just have slots in the barrel to utilize the screw on suppressor's chambers. ie...A smaller 4" A2 flash hider inside the can.

I believe he's talking about increasing the size of the bore for the last 4" of the 16" barrel then adding ports along that last 4" to direct gas into baffles built into a tube that screws on over the barrel. He's just talking about an integral design.

The problem is he's thinking since the last 4" of the bore was increased in size that means the barrel is effectively 12" since there are not lands and groves beyond the first 12" of the bore. He's talking about "effective" barrel length vs. "legal" barrel length.

I believe what he's talking about is really no different than the image below except the O.D. of the barrel is the same as the O.D. of the baffles.

Lets look at the Model "1" sales flash hider #9 on their website. I turn the outside of, lets just say a 9mm carbine barrel down to look something like this and thread it for a 45 cal. suppressor. The end of the barrel - which looks like the end of the long flash hider - slides into the 45 cal.can. Not wanting an internal, just making overall length of carbine a lot shorter while utilizing an off the shelf can and keeping the carbine barrel legal length. Take it off and use on my 45 pistol. Take it off and put on 300 blk barrel like the 9mm. Granted it won't sound as good, but it will work on three host while keeping the oal of the carbines short and still have legal barrel. No different than having a 14" barrel with a pinned fh to make it 16". Hope this clears it up. I know I could sbr, but waiting 11 more months is not an appealing option. thanks for your insights

I said integral not internal.

It didn't clear anything up for me.

If anything it's worse.

@imyomama ghost implies it might have once existed, this is more like a moby dick.

Sort of like this but fixed?

I made one for an ar upper. I built it so it telescopes back over the barrel for volume and keep the OAL of the rifle shorter.

Makes less noise than my 762SD,M4 1000 or M4 2000. Its pretty impressive being a 458 socom (big hole) but it is also a big ass can, just doesn't add a lot of length.

Is the extension (the part that looks like this ]-------[ ) welded to the barrel or is this SBR?

Neither, it would be pointless to do the extra work then. The muzzle end is threaded to fit the threads of the 16" barrel and welded to 1"-.025 4130 tube that is large enough on the ID to slide over the OD of the barrel, thus adding volume without needing a stamp or welding, to the barrel.

In other words, the barrel ends in the middle of the can and it can be removed. I think something similar was what the op was trying to explain.

Gosh, that is pretty machining and superb execution.
Is it possible to recount some of your steps, material, methods, lathes?
Any sound testing comparisons?

Pleasure to view, thanks.
