What would happen if you drilled a few small holes in the tube to vent
some of the pressure?
Vent holes in the blast baffle area
Re: Vent holes in the blast baffle area
Noise, the exact opposite of the purpose of a suppressor.

Only if, say, a concentric donut ring as an outer shell captured seepingNypto wrote:What would happen if you drilled a few small holes in the tube to vent

gases. But do not stop mentally experimenting. Break throughs
come from the most unanticipated mental gymnastics and accidents.
It is still art not science.
Re: Vent holes in the blast baffle area
I think if you perf the second baffle it could help backpressure. dont perf the tube. Bad juju!

Thanks for the replies.
I once saw the guts of a Mac-10 suppressor back in '80. The blast baffle area was full of 12 ga empty primers..40-50. Does this work? I was told it trapped the gas but didn't hear it.

those primers should have been eyelets, small ones. old (crap)tech.Nypto wrote:Thanks for the replies.

You probably saw that MAC-10 diagram in a "Parralex " catalog ,a publication disbursed by Uncle Sam to weed out certain gun suppliers in the early 80's, as Delta said, junk!

Remember the suppressor on the M-14 and M-73 that Mitch Werbell made. It had a bleed hole with cap in the rear part of it did it not??? Don't remember ever holding one in my hand and looking at it.
Re: Vent holes in the blast baffle area
As I recall, it was intended to be a release valve that would only open once pressure had dropped a certain amount. It was removed from the design for having no good effect. If I'm remembering the story correctly without re-reading it.

The M22 (AWC/Dater) is a 5.56mm reflex suppressor, mfr 1979 to 1985.
It's rear mount has "pressure relief ports".

Shoot softly, and carry a big clip.

Re: Vent holes in the blast baffle area
Has anyone tried vent holes at the end cap? The holes would be fed in a coaxial design, which would have additional baffles (rings) to further slow down the wave before reaching the end. The vent holes design would direct the gases from disrupting the accuracy of the exitin bullet(s).

Re: Vent holes in the blast baffle area
Vent holes in the periferie of the main bore has been used to some success to lower the gas pressure from large aperture end caps to prevent ie the uncorking effect.Still a largely unexplored tech that I believe has merit. The trend of smaller high pressure cans I think would benefit the most. The trade off may be higher local noise with a softer less pronounced pop.If you have interest in this area start a thread or contact me direct.troublemaker wrote:Has anyone tried vent holes at the end cap? The only reason after 243 years the government now wants to disarm you is they intend to do something you would shoot them for!
