Hi,
Chapter 1: The Model and the Machining Plan
The first Pic shows the Core I’m going to build. Caps will be standalone Parts to allow testing with different Tube OD’s and Materials.
The second Pic shows how Baffles are formed. I have selected the Dimensions to fit my tooling (Drills, Mills, Vise attachment, …)
Finally, the third Pic shows the turning and drilling Plan.
Next, Chapter 2: Turning

MonoCores & MiniLathes Tutorial: Chapter 1
The future is not waiting for us, it is waiting within us ...
Re: MonoCores & MiniLathes Tutorial: Chapter 1
Seems like an awful lot of solid area left that could become internal volume. Your thoughts?

My first thought too.
An awfull lot of perfectly dead space that could be utilized for additional internal volume.... *sad*
Also: it looks like you have something backwards: in your model, the bullet flies in the wrong direction, or you´ve drawn the 1/2-20UNF threads into the wrong part of the can in the drawing.....
If the 12mm hole is supposed to be the blast chamber, then it´s the later.

Hi,
Yes, there is some extra metal to remove but I prefer to leave it there till the end. The actual empty volume is already enough so not in a hurry.
No, the bullet is not flying wrong, actually, not flying at all (yet, …)

Paul, I would be interested to know what performance you get from this, I made one, very very similar design a few months back and it did not work very well at all.
Like you are showning, they are easy to make but I believe at a price of limited performance.
That said I think most photo tutorials are a good thing, if only to show work holding ideas etc.
Cheers

Hi,
I tested this shape long time ago: It worked fine (rifle) with subsonic ammo. It’s the model I have in COMSOL so need to have a real one now to compare (old one is gone !). I expect improvements using the Ti Tube but still don’t know.
Takes less than 4 hours to build one and it’s really small, bore is just 6.75 mm and no need to thread Tube & Caps. Easy.
We'll see. Still too soon to know.
