Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

please review my rough draft

primarily supersonic 300 black out, some 300 sub, occasional 308 and .223, all out of ar15 or ar10.

Pleas note the baffles will be stepped but because hand drawing while dealing with children became too much I just put in representative baffles nothing to actual shape. I will likely go with delta9 300 mag stepped baffles.

The first chamber is formed by a reversible curved baffle. if it is installed as the top half of the drawing shows, it will put the large mount port in the first chamber.

If it is removed and flipped, it will go in as shown on the bottom half of the drawing. This will put the mounts large port into the second chamber.

Since I get one shot at this I am hoping the reversible baffle will allow me to make some limited adjustment.
overall length will be roughly 10"
Tube is 1.625" .065" wall 4130 tube.

each square equals .25"

the first 2 baffles will be stainless. the rest 4140

bore will be reamed to .350"

Looks good to me. I ran 60 degree cones on my .30 can and am very pleased.
Double check the thread depth going 20 tpi, you might want to think about going with a finer thread to keep more wall thickness.
And I would leave the blast baffle a little thicker if you havent already planned to do so.
But still looks like it has great potential, Good luck

I'd make it all out of stainless.

+1.

24 TPI a minimum, gleaned from experts in past.

I have used 38 - 40 and 42mm tubing in 304 seamless and wall of 1.5mm
treading in 1mm pitch and these where used in 223 - 308 and 300 no problem
Even used these for 338LM in both 42 and 45 mm tubing.
I did however always use a 1,25 mm spacer for the blast chamber and 1mm for the rest of the spacers.
Spacers always machined from solid.

Also used 25crmo4 seamless tubing for some customers, but most are made from 304.
Always use a 1mm pitch here

Milimeters make my brain hurt!...lol
And definatley stainless, a little more work machining but well worth it.

Yeah the metric system is commie stuff
Oh I heard Obama is making an executive order that we use it now.

On a serious note why the stepped cones and then the smooth cones?
Do the stepped cones create that much more turbulence early on in the gas stream
but not enough benefit after the first 2 or 3 baffles to do the rest of the stack in them?

 so the United states marine corps is a bunch of commies 8) ,,they DO use the metric system

Today ONLY the US and some very few third world country's uses the inch system

its strange , i never heard of any machinist living in the metric world having problems using a factor
the inch or metric system are just that ,, a factor

but only one of them are run by logic 8) (there can only be one ...meter )

i never understood why some would use many different systems for length ??

first ,,inch ,then foot , then yards , then miles

it inst a surprise when some at Nasa couldn't figure out all this ,,and did try to land a very expensive devise way under the surface of Mars

I asked my 91 year old former Marine grandather why the marines use this commie system of measurement (he hates commies, socialists, liberals and illegals). He responded by saying # 1 Marines can do whatever they want and no one can do a damn thing about it and #2 he said if I ever used the word commie and marine in the same sentence in a way that was disrespecful again that he would knock me on my ass!

I believe the Marines use it because it plays a role in some way that enables them to kill their enemies in a more efficient way, but for the sake of this forum please use the American way of measuring because we are still azz backwards and have not evolved like the rest of the civilized world.

And to the OP just remember when you make the can take lots of pictures along the way and then post here.

I was planning on stepped baffles throughout but as I had a 2 year old and an 8 year old fighting  , I went with simplifying the drawing only so I could get it posted.

Drat We The People sticking to Imperial standards,
let us be like the Obama Lovin Furinerrs.

Now:

"Adam Viniteri kicked the field goal from the 45.72 meter line".

"What a pair of 96.52 centimeters DD's on her!"

" There Joe 'Hair Plug' Biden goes again, putting his 30.48 centimeters in
his mouth again".

" To Hectare with Shooters Deposit."

" Hey, Doc, I am not overweight, I'm just 13.571429 Stone."

We are one 'Klick' away from wearing berets while smoking
Gauloises, throwing up our hands as soon as any country
looks fiercely at us, as we walk to the food stamp office. :)

Please do, in fact we might be starting a new trend such as a guys
bragging to some nubile creature at at bar that if she plays her
cards right she might get to see his 15.24. :) :)

But the rogue should be prepared if she is a graduate student in
neuro physics for her to beak out laughing hysterically and
saying "I do not want to Hertz your feelings but I
am not interested in micro tubes."

Inches or Metric if you have to use the decimal then your sounding desperate trying to eek out every LITTLE bit. Or you have just spent to much time measuring it...

Titanium all day.

Love it.

Blast chamber looks a little large

Think more gas diversion....

A bullet/gas pressure entering a suppressor is kinda like a fat woman trying to fart in a jug. There has to be a place for the gas to go besides one chamber.

All you have there is one chamber with vents from the aperture and one exit. Drill more holes early on. Yes, there are designs still today made like that and work ok, but to get smaller and have less noise, you have to be creative.

Best I can do without spelling it out. You want the fat lady's arse to stay on the lip of the jug without blowing off. So ease the pressure. lol

Velcro

That is so funny I have never described a suppressor and a fat lady's arse in the same sentence - excellent
