Gentlemen,

So this is the 45 build I did a while back (read few years)

Had to search all parts together, single parts by it self do not make a silencer in my country and they where in several boxes of produced and test parts.
Product was for Military / Police NATO customer.

We won the shootout agains some well known EU and US names.

Material – Tube 6063 Hardcoat Anodize with Teflon

Piston housing: SS316 - QPQ finish

Piston: ETG 100 – hardened and QPQ finishing

Spring : Stainless springsteel

Spacer SS316 - QPQ and finishing

Blast baffle : SS316 - QPQ and finishing

Baffles: 7075 - Hardcoat Anodize with Teflon

Yes, for those of you that where a bit dissapointed in my other post, the Baffles of this build are are in this post.

I know the above 2 pictures are not that nice, but I wll replace thes in the coming days when back in my R&D office.

Had these shots of my Screen op the PC at home.

The baffle design I had in mind was a mix of things, I wanted NOT to do a K but not jus another Kone ot Steps or... well I just wanted to do something different.

I see it like a mix of the letter Y and the Yen sighn. But then more fluent..

Made cuts to let the gas flow more past the outherwall but made sure it had crosflow ports that would interrupt the gas that follows th eBIG 45. There are 2 of thes. One close tot h ebase and on on top of the six fluted rim.

The port sits in front of a finger, so that it guides the gas back inside the main flow space but follows the gas in the same direction as the flow after it was interrupted / directed at the top.

This Silencer was designed to be used with H&K MK23 and 45 Tactical.

Models differed in Piston (L and R tread) and Spring.

Pistons where laser engraved so that user could indentify the models.

Springs in the delivered models where color coded for MK23. Black marking on the rings, this so the customer would know what spring went with what Piston.

Piston is made from ETG100 a material that has its origine in CH, it is a material that machines realy well, has fantastic mechanical specs, and good hardening options.

All other steel parts where Stainless 316 and all steel parts are QPQ finished.

Picture shows the Tube in the white and Black hardcoat anodized, for those of you that wonder ...WHAT is that red tabe duing there, well I used that as my marker for the lasermarking of the component.

The Piston housing sits for the most inside the Tube, has a small notch inside at the front so that the piston can be indexed.

The stainless in the White Piston housing in the Pictures was used to setup the knurling and was used in testing the unit on both the MK23 and T45.
OKAY OKAY - Yes, I know I bugged it by going to far...Sorry for that.

Lots of parts both in the White from production as well as Finished products.and stack:

Here one can see the last baffle as it sits in front of the end-cap.

I could have shortened the tube a few milimeters but thought lets put a shortened baffle in there for the extra bit of work.

Pushertool, made so that when the customer has not been cleaning his Silencer for a while he could use this tool to push the baffle out of the tube. It can also be used for assembly work.

Gentlemen, that is all for now on the 45.

Next time I meet with the customers I will make a vid if allowed.

Standing Ovation for your fine tuning, machining, and
especially your detailed presentation. The creative tweaks
show clever thinking.

Thank you for great presentation of your talent, design, and
machining skills. [Gunny50, hope you infer a complimentary
envy. :) ]

Historian, Many thanks for your kind words.

We do our best at this side of the pond, so to say.
To do our own thing and think a bit outside the box.
Sometimes we get great results, sometimes the elaborate work on the baffles is not worth the little gain in suppression.
At the end we still need to make a bit money when selling them.

Enfield that is not a stupid question, I think that there will be more people that do not know.

Quench polish quench (QPQ)
Is a specialized type of nitrocarburizing case hardening that increases corrosion resistance, originally developed by the Kolene Company. The name refers to the three steps involved: nitrocarburizing, polishing, and post-oxidizing.[1]
This process is usually used when two or more of the following properties are required in a workpiece: wear resistance, corrosion resistance, lubricity, or fatigue strength. However, it is also used when superior corrosion resistance is required.

Wiki tells a little more about it.

HOLY CRAP!  It really is hard to have an original idea! Of course I can't prove anything, but I have been working on an a baffle design VERY similar to this over the last month or so.....kind-of a hybrid between a "K" and an Omega. I am thinking of a little twist that is different then this design though so I will keep my little hissy fit short and sweet and at least know that the idea has merit.

Very nice work Gunny and thanks for sharing.

Davis,

Just take your time, make sure not to start till the paperwork is in and then give it all you can and build what you have in mind. Hybrids sometimes make sense.
I'm glad that I do not have to tax them as experiments have not always been bringing what I wanted.
And I do not mean that hey where not quiet, but that the amount of work over a K or Cone was so much that the improvement was to small.
But with this I'm very happy.

No worries....it's all on paper at this point.

It is great to see what you have done. It gives me ideas how to approach what I have in mind without quite as much work.

Gunny....Great Work!!!
I somehow missed this thread when you originally posted it, Dam.
First off....your pics are Top Notch!!!.....I will definately
have to step up and others here too and bring our "A" game on future threads with pics

Gunny....baffle design is really interesting, I had made a 22lr can with "moon" cuts in the K baffle
skirt like yours, that's it, no mouse hole in the cone for gases to return into the flow.
Yours design with a round hole in the cone really makes me think mine could be improved.

Thank you for your kind words, the hole does work, as gas collides there at the rim it flows back into the cone and collides again with the gas following the projectile.
With a hole as big as a 45 following gas is more than in smaller calibers and the 2 extra holes help venting gas in other directions.

I'm glad that experimenting is not a problem for me, you will see that the hole will help you with the 22 as well.

Gunny
