MIAD basic grip plug question

Allright, I was looking over my AR the other day and pulled out the grip plug on my MIAD that I have my three rounds stored in. I looked closely at the rubber insert and there are two smaller holes in the rubber that hold the rounds in place. I looked through the forum and couldn't find any answers and scowered MAGPUL's website with no luck. Are the extra holes there just for looks or was there some other intended function for them? Just curious, i want to know my weapon inside and out and understand all of it's capabilities.[/img]
