Suppressing 6.8

Post by ERISA »

I am buying the new LWRC 6.8 with the 16 inch barrel. Trying to decide between the Surefire SOCOM in 6.8 versus the 7.62. Anyone know the difference in sound suppression between the two? I know the dedicated can should be more quiet; just trying to determine if it makes sense to go with the quieter dedicated can versus the flexibility of the 7.62.

I've got a Surefire 762 mini (pre-socom) and I've used it on my 6.8 rifle. It does a good job. I don't have a 6.8 specific can to compare it to but I was pleased with the performance.

For reference I've shot it side by side on a 5.56 with a Ranger-2 and at the shooters ear I can't tell the difference between the 223 can and the 762 can.

I fired the 762 can with 5.56 and it was just as quiet as a 556 can so I would say it's not going to be enough of a difference for your ear to hear. But that's just my experience
