Replace L.I.D. body on GemTech Tundra 9mm for 3-Lug Mount

Post by mpdun »

I own a GemTech Tundra 9mm suppressor that I am interested in using with an HK style 3-lug mount. This will be on a 9mm AR, semi-auto only.

To do this, I need to find a compatible 3-lug mount. I've seen several references to the AAC 3-lug adapter being compatible. However, I've been unsuccessful in finding information from anyone who has actually used this configuration. I contacted AAC and they declined to commend on compatibility of their components on the Gemtech unit. That's understandable and what I expected them to say, but I had to ask.

I think another option may be GemTech's 3-lug mount for their Multimount can. The Tundra and the Multimount appear to be very similar. The Multimount L.I.D. looks like the Tundra's to me. Unfortunately, I've seen no references to the MM adapters working on the Tundra. I contacted GemTech and they told me that the Tundra's L.I.D. is permanently attached and its configuration can't be changed.

To muddy the water, however, I found this post from user Captdreifus in which he posts a photo of his Tundra disassembled, with the L.I.D. body removed. The thread is about jailbreaking, but he does not mention doing anything unusual to get his Tundra taken down to this state.

I'd appreciate anyone's advice on how to remove the L.I.D. body from my Tundra.

I'd also appreciate any information on users' experience with GemTech or third party 3-lug adapters that may work with my Tundra.

Thanks!

Some images to better show what I'm asking in the previous post:

This is the interior of the Tundra L.I.D. When taking these photos, I noticed the nubbin toward the bottom that is circled. I suspect this may be a pin or screw keeping the L.I.D. in place.

This is a reference photo of the GemTech Multimount L.I.D. booster. It appears to be the same as the unit on my Tundra. I've never had access to one, so I can't verify dimensions, thread size, etc.

I have now tried to gently heat up the suppressor to loosen any possible thread locker. Even when it's very hot, no amount of manual torque I can put onto it will loosen the L.I.D. If it's thread locker holding it on, it's the high temperature variety.

Now I'm wondering if the pin/screw in the above picture can be removed without damaging the suppressor. And if so, if that will that allow me to get the L.I.D. off. I'd appreciate any suggestions on a procedure and tools required to do that.

Of course, I still don't know if there is a 3-lug mount that'll work on the Tundra once I get the L.I.D. off of it.

I'm looking for a 3-lug adapter for my Tundra also.
I'm thinking that the Gemtech GM-9 is the same thread as the Tundra.
I think the GEMTECH MM9 3-LUG MP5-STYLE FEMALE adapter should work. Thoughts?
