O.D. diameter benefits/design recommendations

Post by Ammo Man »

Thank You for letting me join this Forum. I am a class 10FFL/SOT manufacturer. I presently manufacture 40MM Reloadable munitions for 40MM L.V. launchers primarily for private owners and also encompassing the 37MM and 26.5MM markets. . I would like to manufacture some silencers for my own use in calibers of .223 and 300 Blackout.
We have several multi axis turning centers with live tooling so manufacturing any part of a silencer is a walk in the park for us.
Any recommendations on proven designs is greatly appreciated.
We were thinking of going to a somewhat large O.D. design. between 2" to 2 3/4". Is there any advantage to going larger O.D. over what seems average O.D. of 1 1/2 to 1 3/4"?

Whats a HE 40mm round cost? Whats a chalk round cost to reload? Im interested in 40mm but don't know much.

2.75" diameter is absurd. And thats coming from a guy with 2 absurdly large silencers (1.625 x 11) (1.625 x 13).
Length helps suppression more than diameter.

Caliber and tube diameter is some what tied together. For .223/300 1.375 to 1.50 is the normal size though large suppressors are Old-School-Kool in looks.

I tend to agree with fishman on this.

The only insanely large OD rifle can that I can remember is that jesse james monstrosity and I don't know of anyone that takes it seriously.

A large OD works well for subguns and such. Just trying to give as much internal volume as possible. But does little to help supersonic rounds. More baffles seem to be the general rule of thumb for them.

I have 2 cans that are 11 inches in length.

The 2nd (my blackout can) is a hybrid integral/reflex and comes back over the barrel almost 3 inches so it's not as long as it sounds.

My first one though, was hideously long on anything but sbr's and smg's, but when mounted on those, it sounds really good.

The wonderful experimenters at Liberty tend to come around to going BIG every once in a while. Here's a write-up on an integral rectangular block monocore which looks very interesting:

And of course there was the 2" diameter, 10" long Goliath:

OD-olive drab has its fans......diameter too. This one is a wet suppressor filled with aquas foam used for firefighting. All of these are free of NFA tax....tank not included. Just some fun pictures for ya.

The only reason after 243 years the government now wants to disarm you is they intend to do something you would shoot them for!

I'm pretty sure that the specific suppressor firearm law exempted any fixed battery.

That would be cannons, et. al.

Correct. So if you make a silencer out of a 55 gallon drum, you can shoot small arms through it. No need for registration.
