So I used up what was included and had ordered the tool but not the 80A Polyurethane sheeting from McMaster-Carr so checked what ACE hardware up the street had that might work.
Cork sheeting was first thought - then found some non-stick - non-skid shelf liner plastic
used in layers cork/liner/cork/liner/cork - with 22LR it didn't do bad but with 9mm it was gone in one shot. - tried changing up the material (more cork, then less cork etc) but nothing would hold more than one shot.
Looking for a better solution I had a old plastic swinger target that Dillon used to sell - it was thicker than 1/4 inch but not that much so I figured why not - hit it with the punch - it bounced off - used a bigger hammer made just a minor maring of surface - took the bandsaw to the marking and made a plug.
That stayed in place and in 22LR not much damage in multiple magazines. Using 9mm caused a larger hole but noticed that accuracy had fallen off with this material - too much resistance I'm guessing.
Going to have to break down and order some 1/4 sheet of 80A poly-U.
Anyone else tried other materials?

What about some high temp silicon sheet?
I haven't tried it on the Poseidon yet but I keep eyeballing those cheap soft silicon baking pans at the grocery store. I haven't tried to calculate the cost/wipe.
