AR type host?

Post by sigstroker »

I've only shot subguns with silencers, but I know they can blow gas and crap back into your face. I'm trying to decide between a 300 Blackout DI upper and a SIG MCX with a piston. Generally it would be a no-brainer choice for the SIG, but the DI upper I'm considering is the AAC MPW. Being that they know that the majority of customers for it would be using a silencer on it, is it less prone to gas you than the typical AR?

I've heard also that the AAC upper is engineered to work well with or without a silencer without an adjustable gas port. Does it function as well as the MCX with its adjustable gas system?

If you're worried about it, just know that an adjustable gas block can always be added later.
My vote is for the AR upper, based mostly on its modularity. but if it were me I'd just build my own upper.

I wouldn't know if an off-the-shelf adjustable gas block had a port size that matched up well with the one on the barrel though, right?

The port sizes don't have to match. An adjustable block has a very large port, but let's you throttle back flow to get it exactly where you need it.

Gas blowback is mostly a matter of adjustment. The best setup I've tried used a carbine spring in a rifle tube and adjusted to the absolute minimum. No gas and silky smooth cycling.
