CZ rimfire question

Post by pistolpeta »

Hey guys, Looking for a accurate .22lr bolt gun and have decided on CZ as the make, 455 series.

Should I purchase the 455 American, comes threaded from the factory or would there be any benefit (barrel wise) to purchase the thicker barrel "Varmint" edition and pay a good smith to thread it for me?

I know its easier to just purchase the factory threaded rifle, but wanted to gain some input from y'all on if there is any benefit accuracy wise to getting a thicker barrel threaded.

Thanks guys.

The heavier barrel will hold steadier, but likely won't be noticeably more accurate.

Depends on what you're doing with it.

As fish points out, if you plan to shoot silhouette competition there is a belief among some of the better shooters that a heavier gun is easier to hold steady without a rest. Accuracy of the shooter may increase without affecting the precision of the rifle.

Ammo, crown and length probably have more to do with the precision of a 22lr rifle than most other things.

My Savage Mark II will outshoot my 16" 10/22 which will outshoot my SBX 10/22 at 100+ yards.

Under 50 yards any of them can kill those little steel chickens all day long.
