Scorpion evo hearing safe?

Post by westtxrocket »

Hi y'all, quick question.

Will a cz scorpion with a silencerco hybrid be hearing safe, actually? As in, repeated firing, not by osha specs or anything. Sico claims 125db on their website, better than a lot of others. Of course that's factory numbers, but either way it should be a well performing one.

So, who shoots without ears with a scorpion, and with what can? And has anybody tested the SCORPION db levels? I heard it's quieter than other 9mm carbine, so I'm interested in one as a form 1 rifle.

Thanks

I have some that are more quiet than the scorpion.

Not all guns are made the same despite that they shoot 9mm bullets or not. And there are A LOT of 9mm carbines out there.

The scorpion is hearing safe. 147 and 158 or 165 gr subsonic ammo is the preferred food for it.

It's a straight blowback so dont expect super quiet, but they're hearing safe suppressed.

I've heard one with a can, I forget which one. it's not impressively quiet, but it's hearing safe if that's all you want.

Thanks for the reply, guys.

If you were going for the quietest 9mm semi-auto carbine you could spec out, what would you pick?

That's slightly disappointing, as I was already speccing out what I wanted with the scorpion, as I have heard multiple times it's the quietest and 9mm AR's are the loudest. I'm curious to hear what the quietest ones are (not counting unobtanium stuff like mp5sd).

There is a company that is going to be importing/making the MP5SD. I'm pretty sure that it'll be a 2 stamp gun though. 1 for the short barrel ($200) and another for the silencer (another $200 in taxes).

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2016 ... -underway/

I also expect that gun will probably have a price tag of around 3 grand, but that's just me thinking out loud and I haven't seen any MSRP being discussed.

And MP5's aren't unobtanium. The Turkish clones are made just as well as the HK models, and actually use HK parts since they're built with HK parts (as are all the clones that I know of).

They're around $1500'ish online anywhere you want to look.

The MP5 is one of the most quiet 9mm carbines out there because it has a delayed roller lock that keeps the bolt closed slightly longer than other 9mm carbines, which are almost always blowback (as is the scorpion, beretta, uzi, any 9mm handgun, etc)

In all fairness though, that doesn't mean the scorpion is LOUD. It's really pleasant to shoot with a can, and it's accurate and reliable. I can honestly say that my MP5 has been rather picky and finicky. Spare parts are expensive and "you suck and HK hates you" (that's an inside joke).

I can also say that I normally shoot the scorpion more often than I do my mp5 clone. I just like shooting it better.

Plenty of good HK clones available.
Not sure their pricetag warrants a proud disclaimer of "quietest delayed blowback".

You can usually drop some dB by rolling your own pills as well

What do you roll with?

I'm using about 3.2 gr titegroup with 147 RN's. They're not too bad.

Been wanting to try some of the 165 gr Hush pills though. I also have some 158 gr .357 bullets I've wanted to try but haven't gotten up the nerve yet.
