CVA hunter 44mag

Post by Shane171975 »

I want to suppress a CVA hunter in 44mag. Thinking I will cut and thread the barrel at 16. It has a 1:20 twist. I reload and hope to shoot cast some. What would be a good suppressor for this?

A custom integral would be the way to go

What would the benefits be of an integral over a screw on?

Coastal Gun makes the Thumper for .44 mag.

I am now considering a tba integrally suppressed 77/44. Compared to the thumper or octane 45 on a 16 inch 44mag barrel. How much quieter will the integral be?

That depends on a lot of factors, but it will be quieter unless the integral builder makes it really shitty. You can go with an overall shorter package with the same sound reduction of you go integral, or same length but quieter.

An integral should be more quiet. Regardless.

There will always be a sonic crack at velocities over ~1100 fps. This occurs when the bullet breaks the speed of sound somewhere downrange. Suppressors cannot and do not make that sound any quieter (contrary to what you read from the media).
I don't care what your chart says

I was meaning with subsonic rounds, it's basically 800$ difference and was trying to justify in my mind which way to go, I could move the octane 45 to other guns, a plus for sure, but as mentioned the integral is much quieter. Having never been around suppressors, it's hard for me to understand what 10 dbs sound like

10db is a considerable amount.

Many people can't tell the difference between 1- 3 db.

But 10db will be a very noticable difference.

I understand if you want to swap it around to different guns. I have several that I move around all the time. That allows for a lot of enjoyment out of it all around.

But I have built 2 integrals and put them on two guns that I always enjoyed in the first place. I find myself using them more and more all the time.

-10dB is 10 times less peak sound pressure. (if hearing damage is your concern)
-10dB sounds half as loud. (if stealth is your concern)
