SUPPRESSOR FOR THOMPSON CENTER ''COMPASS'' 6.5 CREEDMOOR

Post by teis »

Greetings,

I recently purchased a Thompson Center "Compass" 6.5 Creedmoor. I am looking for my first centerfire suppressor. I will primarily use for deer hunting, and maybe lucky elk draw. Bench shooting mostly under 300yds.

So far on my list: Crux Saxon 6.5, Silencer Co Omega 300, Thunder Beast Arms Corp. 6.5 Ultra 7, Rugged Surge 7.62, and Griffin REEC 7 model 4

The lighter ones seem to make most sense for me and that would be the Thunder Beast, Crux, and the Silencer Co. It seems the Thunder Beast and Crux are more specific to 6.5 caliber, and the Silencer Co Omega ranges from 5.56 to .300WM. Being able to use on an array of varying caliber host rifles is not something I need, though is fine if not sacrificing too much sound or POI change.

1)If I understand their sizes correctly, because the Omega has a range to .300WM it will add a few decibels, as would the Rugged Surge7.2caliber, and the Griffin REEC 7 (7.2cal), as compared to the T.B.A.C. Ultra, and the Crux Saxon?

2)I have some concern about the Crux company. I saw on another forum some of their units failed, but not sure if this was corrected, or whether the company is dependable? I called them yesterday and left a message, but no return call as of today, which of course doesn't necessarily mean anything. Their stuff is listed at the Silencer Shop, but regardless, I want to be dealing with a reputable company?

3)I know the Ultra is known for long distance precision, but not sure there is a difference compared to others in POI changes for my use, typically under 300yds?

Your responses would be much appreciated, or maybe you have others you like better?

Thanks,
teis

Contact Liberty Suppressors. Their Mystic X is now rated for up to 300 Win Mag and would probably work but they would know. Barrel length seems to be a big concern for most cans. I have an older Mystic and am waiting for a baffle strike so I can take advantage of their upgrade program. If I went for the upgrade now, lady luck would probably cause a baffle strike.

Just as a side note. Suppressors with supersonic ammo does not give you much in the way of grins.

I don't own any but quite a few people are happy with Thunder Beast.

As for Liberty I own a Freedom I'm very happy with and I have a Sovereign on the way, both are rated for 300 WinMag 16"+ for the Freedom and 18"+ for the Sovereign. You'd have to check but I'd imagine the guys at Liberty might give you a pass for 6.5 with the 22" barrel on the Compass.

POI changes for most suppressors between suppressed and unsuppressed, personally I only shoot suppressed so I don't worry about POI shift without the suppressor.

Well said Hardcase, "supersonic ammo doesn't give you much in the way of grins":):) What I own so far is a Tactical Solutions Axiom suppressor for my CZ 455 .22 and it is the same thing for me regarding sub/supersonic.

I don't see anything factory produced online for 6.5 Creedmoor. I did find https://dallasreloads.com/product/160-g ... -subsonic/
Looks like I will need to do my own if wanting to continue the subsonic pursuit cost effectively. Never have done reloading, but it looks like it's in my future.

Doubloon,
You made me realize I leave/like the can on 99.9% for the .22 (16"barrel).
Maybe I can manage/like it on the 22" for the 6.5 Creed as well. First things first, Fed.Ex. says rifle will arrive this Tue.

At the bottom of your post there are some links. I listened to David Foster Wallace, "This is Water"

Thank You

Looks like an interesting rifle, be interested in hearing more about it once you break it in.

Yes, looking forward to it.
The Thunder Beast Ultra 7 6.5 would be my preference , claiming little or no first round pop, and its light weight is very appealing.
Though it is my first choice, it expensive for me, I may have to delay gratification, on top of the delayed gratification of the NFA waiting period. Also I was told by the Silencer Shop they are out of stock and it will be ~8-10 weeks before re-stocking. I will try to remind myself good things are worth waiting for and start saving that extra $.

Hoping to learn more about suitable subsonic ammo to match up. At this point the subsonic ammo is what I know the least about for 6.5 creedmoor. Reminds me of what my mom used to say, "Don't put the cart before the horse"

If you have never handloaded before, you might need to think buying a bolt gun in 300 Blackout for subs. You can buy factory loaded sub ammo. 6.5 Creedmoor is a lot of brass volume to try and get consistent subs. There probably is a 6.5 Creedmoor forum around that can give you advice.

I love reloading but to do it right you will need minimum $500.00 to $1,000.00 worth of equipment. I have 5X that much.

A decent single stage press, dies, brass cleaner, powder scales, reloading manuals x3, chronograph for subs, calipers to measure, and of course bullets, brass, powder, primers.

I think most people end up shooting more  so reloading doesn't end up saving them money.

There are people that for whatever reason stop reloading and sell all their gear. This might be a option. Then most likely all you have to do is get dies.

I've had my eye on getting a rifle in this caliber. Let us know how it shoots.

Roger that on how it shoots.

Much thanks for the details on what I would be getting into for reloading, and I will be checking into a 6.5 Creedmoor forum.

For you: Bought it through https://www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore ... /ID/192978 It is considered one of the cheapest/utilitarian, but quality out of the box 6.5"s (they guarantee 1MOA). More popular I think is the Ruger, Savage, Tika, Weatherby, Howa, BUT they don't list for $299.99 and $224.99 after rebate  , plus they are not necessarily more accurate according to reviews I could gather. Someone said "Thomson Center" center fire rifles have not been as well promoted as some of these others, but that may change some with this promotion. I bought model 11703V as it includes an entry level Vortex scope for an extra 100.00 The promotion ends April 30th.
