Here Kitty

Really loud. I am going to try it with a 308 can since 5.56mm cans are not really recommended for short barrels.

The BLACKOUT seemed to kill the flash, and I tried XM193, IMI M193, Win Q3131, Win Q3131A, and PMC .223.

I'm interested in this, it's a complete range toy IMHO, to me at least. But I know OPS is the only one with the cajones to warranty thier cans on set ups this short. IIRC......I remmember thinking that maybe a 308 can would work......but Mers....IIRC.....said that was a bad idea b/c it could tumble or something. I figured the bigger bore would be more forgiving. Please....don't put a 18T 762 on it...go 51t....do it for the children.

Sidebar: DI? Really....Robert I know you have a LWRC PSD, youtube ratted you out....you lose 10 internets for such an oversight!

The fact is, the projectile is still greater than a P90 or MP7! So it only sucks in comparison to a full size AR.

As for tumble projectiles, Phil Dater always said that. I have not yet verified it myself.

Didn't you see my mag dump?

That's an epic mag dump....that said. It's a R&D mag dump. I wanna be able to do it, on semi auto sadly, and have the can maker still warranty my can.....OPS is the only game in town in that regard.

I look forward to your results....

And go get that PSD out!lol.

No one should be doing non R&D mag dumps on a 7 inch barrel. I probably brought that can up to 1400 degrees F.

Normal shooting on a 7 inch barrel I feel is doable but may require a 308 can.

What about the .308 can will be better for the life of the can/gun combo at that barrel length? Is it the volume you're looking for, larger bore, or materials? This interests me because I went the cheap route and am using a .308 can on my AR anyway (albeit on a 14.5" barrel) and wonder if there are actual benefits.

EDIT: Is that Robert wearing a LaRue hat in that video? That's awesome.

Yes, LaRue hat.

A 308 can will greatly lessen the chance of baffle strikes that some people believe happen more frequently with very short barrels.

You will still have baffle erosion and shorter can life.

Neat. I have put some rounds through a Kel Tec PLR-16 with a 9" barrel. I wasn't impressed, but everyone around me thought it was cool. I felt like I was wasting gunpowder every time I pulled the trigger.

Well, obviously 5.56mm is a terrible round for short barrels. Really it is for 20-24 inch barrels. Even 16 is a stretch. 7 is pretty absurd.

But, that being said, it does have more zip than a P90 or MP7 - and the ammo is in most people's inventories. And no one would want to be shot with it.

Exactly. I never run M855 and the like through my SBRs, especially when using a can.

When I'm shooting 5.56 SBRs I use handloads that have a more complete powder burn than ammo like M855 made for the longer barrel (like the 20" M-16).

I lose a few fps but the pressure and % of unburnt powder are significantly reduced. Less blast baffle erosion and noise are an added benefit to doing so.

Why not a longer rail to give your support hand more space?

If you know of an alternative rail to this, let me know. I would like one so that a 7.0 inch barrel, measured per ATF method to the bolt face, would allow an AAC silencer mount to work.

I would think that you could get away with a 7.0 rail since the FH sticks out past that.

I held up a 7 inch URX to this and I think the teeth on the mount were inside the rail - and this is a 7.6 inch barrel. I want to try a 7.0 barrel.

Not to piss in Arevalo's cheerios, but Surefire gave me the green light to shoot my Mini off a 7 inch AR15 with full warranty still intact. Just saying.

Holy crap!! You risked powder burns on Vanson leathers? You should be horse whipped!!

How about a split-cowhide welding jacket for the range? Seriously, I'll send you one of ours (with our company logo on it, of course) - if you'll use it in your videos.

Spike's Tactical lists a 4.0 DD Lite Rail. Not sure what length you have on there now but it's probably similar.

Man up.
#1 If you get a baffle strike the silencer manufacturer isn't going to fix it unless it was made wrong and you would find out about that shooting it on a 16" just as easy.
#2 Service life of the silencer is about how you use it, again not related to warranty.
#3 A silencer designed for full auto use on a 10.5" barrel should be able to take the heat and pressure of some use on a 7" barrel. Robert's vid proves that.

The biggest problem is going to be the rifle in my opinion. Both service life and functioning with all the extra gas.

I shot it today with a 762 can and it functioned but I did not check cyclic rate or anything.

Thanks on the DD rail. I am ordering one now.

Anyone make a 308 can in 1/2 x 28?

That for the Surefire info, I appreciate it.

7.62-SD will mount on a 5.56 (1/2-28) mount.

The DD Omega 7" is Maybe short enough to clear an M4-2000 on a 7.5" barrel. It's shorter than most 7" rails because it's designed to fit behind the handguard cap.

I am sure I will be happy with the 4.0.

I will use 7 inch rails for barrels 8 - 11.5 inches.

Might be interesting to try a 51T BRAKEOUT with the new 51T (of course) 762-SD. I'm sure the muzzle brake would offer even more blast baffle protection, but I wouldn't want to fire a 7" with a full-on brake. Using Hornady 55gr TAP, this is still a very potent PDW type weapon. Very compact and handy.

This is something that should be more widely advertised. I consider that a major selling point.
