Custom Barnes 110 Tac-X bullets
Barnes has a special run of 110 Tac-X which were manufactured in a way to lower the expansion velocity threshold.

Re: Custom Barnes 110 TSX bullets
Do you have a part number?
I just spoke with Barnes. The gal from orders had no idea, so she forwarded me on to tech support. He didn't know either, and forwarded me on to one of their engineers.
The engineer is doing some digging for me, as he didn't know where the bullets they produced ended up. Nice guy. He walked me through the development and explained the range of these bullets will expand at.

As soon as they tell me I will post it.
Re: Custom Barnes 110 TSX bullets

The gentlemen I talked with said that, if his memory serves him correctly, it was from 1500fps to 2200fps.

Whatever the normal one does, this one does a few hundred fps lower.
Re: Custom Barnes 110 TSX bullets
I would love an open tipped bullet that would expand at subsonic velocities.

Booya!
New Tac-X bullets on left, .224 53gr XFB on right for comparison.
The 30 caliber bullet impacted water at 2218fps.
Once I test this on some game I'll share the results.

What's accuracy like on this 110gr bullet?

Re: Custom Barnes 110 Tac-X bullets
So far it has been really crappy for me. I've tried two different COALs and different charges, but I'm getting really large (like 4" at 50 yards) groups. I'm shooting them in a 1:7" twist whisper barrel on a Rem 700. The same gun will shoot 110g sierra varmint bullets really accurately.fstbk65 wrote:What's accuracy like on this 110gr bullet?
Anyone else get them to shoot well?

Haven't loaded any yet but that is odd... usually Barnes is particularly accurate.

Re: Custom Barnes 110 Tac-X bullets
I'm still having problems getting these to shoot accurately. Has anyone else experienced this?
I can see with my naked eye that some of the tips are misshapen. Perhaps this is causing the problem.

Are you using a crimp?smcharchan wrote:I'm still having problems getting these to shoot accurately. Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: Custom Barnes 110 Tac-X bullets
I tried both with and without. 4" to 6" groups at fifty regardless of what I do (powder, trim length, OAL, etc). Are you using a crimp?
This gun shoots very well with other projectiles, even those of the same weight (albeit a completely different design).
I really want to get these to shoot. I'll call Barnes when I find some time during normal business hours.
