Post by silencertalk »

I can't see to set it up to shell feed 300 BLK. Does anyone have it working?

Never mind. This time I read the owner's manual. You basically treat it as a pistol cartridge and have to adjust the drop tube to overlap the case mouth by 3/16 rather than use some thingy metal part. It works now.

How do you like that press? (i know this isn't the reloading forum). Compare it to a Dillon?

Robert can answer further, but here is an old post when he first got it, and the reasons he likes it, hopefully it can help you:

The free bullets used to be 1000 for the lock n load AP kit, now it is only 500. Check out midsouth shooters, and midway for good prices. Midway has coupons every once in a while that can help bring the price down...

I think you still get free 100 bullets for every die too...

The case feeder seems finicky. I am not sure how a Dillon is. Never used one.

I will say it is not in my nature to reconfigure these and I recommend getting two or three of the presses and leave them set up with a certain caliber or at lease case and primer style. So changing from 223 to 300 BLK is simple but changing primers or case feeder parts sucks.

Hornady steel rusts if you look at it funny. It is just raw carbon steel which I don't really understand.

I see yours gets rust on it just like mine. My press, powder measure, and dies all have rust on them now.

Pisses me off to no end.

For bullets I keep it simple and get the 150 grain 308 fmjbt.

The dillon casefeeder doesn't like 300 BLK either. 223 works flawlessly, but because the case is shorter about 30% of the cases get fed upside down. Very annoying. Is this similar to what you are experiencing with the Hornady? I use the casefeeder for 223, 9mm, 38/.357, .45 and it really is flawless, its just that the difference in weight between the front and back of the case isn't as great as with other calibers, so occasionally the front tips in the feed tube instead of passing over it like with a more rear-weighted case.

based on the physics of how the case feeder works, you would need to have the hole in the "bucket" part where the cases fall out of be just shorter than the distance from the center of gravity of the case to the mouth of the neck. then, it will always orientate itself correctly.

i'm am too poor at the moment to own this stuff, but if someone feels overly rich...

You are right, I think that would fix it, especially if you leave it on "low", but I have been too busy to try.

No, I don't get upside down cases. I just have trouble with it shoving the case into the shell holder.

Are you using the small rifle case feed plate in the hornady?

The #2 which it recommends for 223 - if you mean the small v-block thing.

Yes, just curious. And Bowen1911, you were right, I fooled with the opening on the dillon case feeder and got it working perfectly!
