Draco Pistol Converted to SBR?

Post by gunguy »

I was thinking I want to put an underfolder stock on my draco, how hard is it? Do I just drop it off at the gun smith after the paper work clears?

Underfolders suck they are not stable at all and if you can use a hand drill and twist your wrist you can put an ace side folder on. They lock up great and look great as well. Cost is more but if your going to have a smith do the underfolder you would be spending less with the ace.

My underfolder on my M92 is very stable and works just fine! I do understand they're not for everyone though. :)

I had an underfolder on a Yugo M92, thays what made me want it on the Draco. I like how out of the way the stock is.

My Form1 has been with the BATFE for 30 days (as of today) on my Draco. There are two types of Dracos out there: one came with a underfolder stock attachment (although the receiver was not cut for the holes) and the other (newer ones) has a "pistol" setup (solid back with recoil spring/guide rod recess). If you are wanting to go with a underfolder then I would search one of the old models out. This would make for a easy conversion.

I also had a underfolder on a yugo and it was ok but the ace folder is so much better it locks up solid and the cheek weld is better I understand the underfolder looks good and is out of the way when folded and has the classic ak look but to me the quality of the ace sold it for me if you use one you'll love it.

Take a look on the classifieds. I have a long 4 piece bulgarian style flash hider for sale over there made by CNC warrior. CNC warrior sells a $15 adapter that you can screw onto the DRACO and you can permanently attach the long 4 piece to make it 16" OAL. Its actually a neat way to do it and saves you a stamp and all the backblast and muzzle flash and lets you turn the draco into a gun you can hit something with.

Thanks Yugo, but I plan on using my YHM Phantom on it. I shot it with the YHM on it and it sounds really good.

Yes. I hand engrave as a hobby (black powder rifles/pistol mostly but have done modern too).

I am 71 days into my wait. From the very beginning, I wanted to do that exact same build on mine (based off of an old picture I saw that was taken during the revolution). The only other thing that I was thinking about adding was the cage type break (also seen in that picture).

I took the Draco out today and managed a pretty good bump fire :D Man this is one fun gun, my poor YHM Phantom took a real beating and it just keeps on going strong. I look forward to getting my stamp back so I can get a stock on it.

SBR Draco with either ACE side folder or an underfolder seems to be THE hot item in the NFA world right now. Probably because you can get the SBR done, including stamp, for under $800 start to finish, and probably have money left for mags and ammo...

I love that NFA items are becoming more and more common.

If you think about it, a common Romanian AK goes for around 500.00 the Draco was 330.00$ plus 200.00 for the stamp and onother 150.00 for the Ace stock that an SBR for under 700.00 how cool is that?

That's a good point, Dracos are $300-350, while even crappy AK rifles are $400+, usually.

I got my signed papers in while I was back east. They are sending me back there next week, and out of town for the next two, so it looks like it will be the first week of July before I start my conversion :( .

Well although I have done many 80% AK builds, and with the exception on the welding this conversion was well within my capabilities, my work schedule was just leaving me with zero time for the conversion. I finially gave in and ended up sending it to a recomended smith last Thursday along with all my parts...anyway got a call this afternoon! It is ready! I hope to go and get it picked up later this week. I will post when I get it.
