SIG 1911 Scorpion

Post by eastern_hunter »

Guys,

I picked up a SIG 1911 Scorpion because I don't have a non-ramped 1911 in 45 ACP any more.

Barrel sure looks pretty standard to me. Anyone know if this uses standard 1911 barrels?

Thanks!

Mike

I had no problem swapping any of my Jarvis threaded 1911 barrels into my Sig 1911 Tacops.
I looked at the Scorpion....Thought I'd have too custom paint my 45 can. 8)

What do you think of the Jarvis barrels?

Check out Storm Lake barrels. Very good and easily order-able.
You can get them through several vendors, including MidwayUSA.
Can be ordered in semi-drop-in with link, pin and bushing, ready to go.

Also, Sig has threaded barrels (for their P series _AND_ their 1911's as well).

Ordered a SIG threaded bbl for a stainless P220 ... is going to have to be gunsmith fit.

Anyone know if their bbl for the Scorpion will be a drop-in?

The P220 should drop in.
The 1911 barrel may or may not. 1911s are all a little different and can take more fitting.

For the P220:
Put the new barrel in the slide.
See if it locks up. Check the hood of the barrel and make sure it fits into the area in the slide like the old one. If so, put recoil rod and spring on and put it into the frame.
Hand cycle it a few times and make sure the action is just as smooth as before and that everything locks up like it used to.
I've had to take a stone or light file to the rear of the hood to get my last sig barrel in, but that was a barsto barrel, not factory.

The 1911 would be similar, but you have to check for more things. Such as the lower lug engagement, upper lug engagement and clearance. You would also want to keep an eye out for lug wear during use, that would indicate an Inproper fit.

The SIG 220 bbl that doesn't seem to fit was being tested on an early P220 Stainless Elite with the non-standard under rail.

Have a new P220 Nitron Stainless P220 on the way in. We'll see how it fits.

Just picked up a Mark 25 and have a threaded Bar-Sto bbl for it, but have not had a chance to look at the fit.

Have fit a number of 1911 bbls into standard, Tripp, and Para frames. Even have milling fixtures to hold them. So not entirely new at the problem but have not fit SIG barrels before.
