1911 quiet compared to hktac45?
I currently have a HKtac45 and a SWR HEMS2 and I'm thinking about setting up my LesBearTRS for the can and I'm wondering if the 1911 lock time is better than the HK's or if the 1911 is a quieter host. Any insight would be great as I've never shot a suppressed 1911. Thanks

When I built up my 1911, I purchased a non-ramped, extended, threaded barrel from KKM Precision: http://www.kkmprecision.com/custom_pist ... s/home.php. Gave them the thread specs for the can, and they had it out in a couple of days.

I just ordered from Storm Lake a few weeks ago. I took the plunge and got 4 extended & threaded barrels. They should arrive in couple more weeks. I'll let you know what I think after I get them set up and compared to my HK45.

I don't seem to be having an issue with the site. I placed my order via phone and I was told that the order will not appear on the website unless the order was placed on the site. Good luck.

Re: 1911 quiet compared to hktac45?
my understanding is that 1911 are difficult to get to run right suppressed .. versus hk wich will run like a sewing machine (mine does).. don't think you'd notice enough of a difference between the sound on the two .. but lots of thinkering ahead to get that 1911 going right ... unless you get lucky !
people report the beretta and sig being quiet-er .. at least in 9mm.. maybe you'd want to look in that direction as well..
you could always look at silencerresearch for test results and videos... (no i'm not biased one way or the other on this guy's site...don't want (you know how you are) to start a hate thread!! just a suggestion...)

I must be doing it wrong. Every suppressor host 1911 that I have built runs trouble-free. A properly set-up 1911 will run with or without a can.

lol, My gun pics folder is flooded with your work. Its funny when I show non-gun friends and they have no idea whats so special about your work. And when I show a gun nut they freak over the detailed work. I'll never be able to afford a Erickson masterpiece let alone hold one, but I imagine its like sitting and or driving a Ferrari for the 1st time to a car nut.
Damn I can't wait for this barrel to come in. Im also ordering celtic grips from Esmerelda. Then I need a nice case for the setup. I have problems!

IIRC, mine showed up in less than 4 weeks after I ordered it.
"Your" does not equal "You're", the contraction for "You are".

Mine are scheduled to arrive 8/2 after a two week delay. Perfect timing as my Osprey 45 and TiRant 45 Form 4s came in yesterday. Couldn't ask for better timing.

Re: 1911 quiet compared to hktac45?
Looks great...BUT...NOT A DROP IN. The Baer is all hand fit tightness. It will go out of battery but...no way im shooting it like that. Too rough....So who can fit a 1911 barrel that wont have my fucking pistol for 8months? Anyone

Just put my threaded barrel in my neighbors Kimber custom2.....fit like a dream. I wonder if its better for me to save up for a 1911 suppressor host to beat on and let the LesBaer be.....

You could try out a Jarvis barrel. And that baby looks great!
Re: 1911 quiet compared to hktac45?
Man I would love to have Dave work on my Champion Operator, even if I don't turn it into a silencer host. I just want a bobtail and some reliability work done!!!!! Although I'm kinda hung up on Chuck Rogers golfball treatment and it wouldn't be right to have another 'smith do it.
FWIW my Nighthawk w/threaded barrel seems as quiet as the HK Tac I had. Just as reliable too it seems.

Re: 1911 quiet compared to hktac45?
Firstly, it was a big weekend for me. I received an email from my dealer that my Form 4s were approved and that I could free my captive:
AAC TiRant .45
Silencerco Osprey 45
Silencerco Osprey 9
Yankee Hill Machine 7.62 SD QD
I received my barrels yesterday and spent some time trying to get the first barrel for my Para p16 .40 installed. I was not a drop in at all. I then moved onto the next host, Colt Series 70 Tussey Custom, and what do ya know- it was not drop in. Like the Para, it wouldn't go into battery.
Two unsuccessful attempts had me ready to drop off the rest of guns to the local 'smith and let him deal with it. That didn't last too long. I picked up my Springfield TRP Operator and reluctantly began the disassembly. When I put the new Storm Lake barrel (SLB) and bushing into the slide I noticed that the fit was fairly snug. I compared it with the factory bull barrel and both barrels felt nearly identical. I put it all together and it worked! This is the part where I got all excited again.
I repeated the process with even more skepticism with the Baer... and it worked! I would have bet a crisp 100 dollar bill that it wouldn't drop in.
I can report that after nearly 100 rounds down range through the SA and Baer and there were a grand total of ZERO malfunctions. With and without the suppressor, both guns ran with ball and JHP ammo during slow and fast fire. The accuracy was excellent and just as good - let me repeat- just as good as the factory barrels.
Quality - I ordered the barrel, bushing, link, pin and thread protector combo. All of the parts were of excellent quality - down to the bevel on the outside of the bushing. Despite the Para fitting issue (as can be expected) I am very pleased with the purchase.
Fireman1291- Good luck with your fitting. I'll be in the same boat trying to get my Para and Colt running.
Here are a couple of "bad cell phone pics" after the install. I'll get a few higher quality shots of close ups and the range trip when I have more time.
All laid out
Had a childish grin...
Shout out to Bryon at Major Malfunction for working with me for damn near a year on the TiRant and hooking me up on 4 cans and to David Gilmore at JDG Enterprises in Leawood, KS for the transfer (and letting me shoot the cans during a supervised visit).
